Does how often you update your website effect SERP?

Just curious. Most of the information on my index page is static. Does the frequency of updates help/hurt SERP? If so, can anyone recommend what I could add to my index page that will require updates and not be too cumbersome...Thanks

If you mean writing new content and publishing it every day - yes this will help SERP.

Yes it does, the more you update the more the bots visit.

if you have a blog elsewhere on your site that you update frequently....you can have a snippet of the lastest articles displayed on your home page...

that is just one idea......there are many more that I can't think of off the top of my head..

New Fresh content equals happy users. Happy Users means repeat visitors to the search engine that provided the results. Update new quality content regularly and you'll have repeat visitors and repeat spiders seeking your new content like an addiction...

fresh content = spider bait :D

I would be much in the same boat, main page rarely if ever changes...should I adjust the frequency then?

Any more ideas on what kind of content I can regularly change on the index page to generate visitors and spider visits? Are links to Bass fishing news good things?

A general tip for adding automatic content is to use RSS. Google News provide pretty fresh results every time :)
