This is SO frustrating! How DO YOU GET MORE TRAFFIC TO A PROXY?!

OK, I've bought and sold countless proxies now and am yearning to get that single gem that gets a couple hundred or a thousand uniques a day and a decent $5 to $10 a day in adsense revenue.

EACH and EVERY proxy I've bought gets a few visitors and then dies off after a while leaving me distraught.

Numerous people have told me to submit to topsites etc. and it hasn't helped me one bit. I get NO traffic from then and all it does is bog down the loading of my page with the million little banners they force you to put on your page.

So, to those succesful proxy owners out there, HOW did you do it? I am really frustrated now and I really need some good advice

you could spam some comments on myspace about your proxy. After all it's the myspace users who use the proxys mostly

I think you just answered your own question: "Time" and "Money".

QFT. Time and money. You can spend less time and invest more money, or spend less money but invest more time. Your choice.

No offense, but with the school year now coming to an end, this is the worst time to start a proxy.

Absolutely not. There will be no traffic to build up over the summer, and 'get it ready' for next year is ridiculous. Who needs 3 months to set up a proxy? I could have one up in 5 minutes.

Just trying to be supportive. I know that American schools are not the only users of proxies in the entire world.
There is no way that is true.

No. But they make up for a large percentage of proxy users, my best proxy took a dive last Friday, summer is here for most schools. I went from 12,000 uniques to 300. $10 a day to under $5.
So this statement is partly true.

Im gonna keep advertising my proxies. i don't care if school is over or whatever. During the summer, I will get my PR up, raise my sites in google search rankings, and get a huge traffic jump as soon as school starts.

    thanks for the heads up

now you say you are earning $15 a day from 1 proxy? See, I could never attract that many visitors to my proxy. I've tried to make it more appealing as well, like directly hosting flash games, having a funny pic of the day etc.

I know i've been stingy on the advertisement budget, but lets say I had $100 to advertise a proxy, how would i go about doing it?

I didn't know that. I assumed they would be popular in countries with restricted internet access, and offices with filters on the network.
    Thanks for the info.

Dont' forget the low converting Middle East and Chinese traffic.

Currently I have only one proxy site which gets hundreds of uniques and earns $3+ a day often...planning to build another one soon.

New proxies do well until they are discovered and blocked by web content filters such as WebSense and Smartfilter.

Once your proxy is discovered and blocked, it's going to lose most of its traffic.

That's why there is a steady stream of new proxies. :)

Do you realize how many proxies exist? Hundreds of thousands running on PHProxy (which I assume you're using - or some variant). What makes yours unique?

what makes the ones unique that recieve the high amount of traffic? (I dont want to sound rude, I know you have a valid point there).

I hear of people building proxies and then receiving a burst of traffic for next to no promotion. Is there some secret I have missed out on?

Oh, and how long does it usually take for proxies to get blocked? Mine usually die in a couple of weeks.
