Should I raise my prices?

    Hi everyone,

I have really started to wonder if I am undercharging for a listing in my directory.
I was just checking out some other directories, and some of them are still raising prices. I just noticed that romow raised its prices and featured links are now $90 per year, and most of the PR5 durectories have higher prices than directorydream, especially if you look at what you get for the money,

I am doing really heavy promotion and my alexa has been really low lately. And is still going down big time.

Plus, I do not sell sitewide advertising, and never will.

In addition, I have just raised my advertising budget to over $1,500 per month and yes, I will aim for PR7 for the next update, in addition to even bigger promotion.

So should I remove the $9.95 option, and should I switch my featured links to annual?

Also, I know that other webmasters know that my directory is a bargain, and I already have over 30 directories listed, and all that in only 3 weeks time.
But could the low price undervalue my directory in some people's eyes?

What do you think? Especially about the fact that my featured links are permanent.

Any suggestions are really appreciated and will get green rep, of course.

    Thanks! :)

I think I can relate to your query but it will depend on the Math if the spend exceeds the revenue you will have to look closely at your revenues received

Maybe in your case an increase will be needed to sustain the ROI

if you are offering to do thousands in promotion each month then you should charge in relation to that

look at other directories which are very close to your pr and backlinks alexa rank etc

how much do they charge and do they offer anything you dont.

if you have better site service etc then i would say just undercut them a little and keep pushing.

The pricing looks good, and there are lots of options which is a bonus.

I notice you're getting a lot of visitors from Serbia and Montenegro, according to Alexa's stats. Have you any idea why this is?

This also sounds good, but I'd be interested to know what kind of places you are doing this promotion. What kind of visitors are you likely to be attracting through your advertising? Is it mainly webmasters?

I faced a similar question last October. My paid express reviews were $9.95 and I wasn't even comming close to break even. I raised my fee to $12.95 and now receive 50% more paid reviews than before. In my case, it appears that small changes were the ticket. I think 2-3 dollars price increase per year is fair and that is what I am working toward for now.

One note: my paid reviews are not "permanant" they are for a 4 year period and then automatically revert to normal or free submissions after that time unless renewed. This is where I differ from most I guess.

I think you are currently offering a really good deal, and I don't think raising your price a bit will hurt anything. :)

I'd say increase them. I'm going to increase mine.

At 14.99 for a lifetime link I get so so submissions. DEFINATELY NOT DOUBLE the 24.99 or 29.99

When I was charging 30$ a pop I had ALOT more submissions. My trial period just ended and prices are going up.

Most people view price w/ quality. Obviously if you abuse this you won't get any customers but the reality is people feel underpriced things are QBC.

Raise your prise, mind you 90$ a year is steep I feel but find somewhere that is in the same area and still competitive.

I think your prices are on the low-end. IMO you could go for a 20% - 30% increase easy without losing any business.

I can tell you this is useless since nobody in Serbia and Montenegro has paypal(including me). Maybe you should install 2co mod if you want to convert some of your Serbian traffic.
Not sure how you get traffic from Serbia, but I find that really funny.

I charge $19.99 permanent links on my pr4 directory and $29.99 featured prices.
This is $10.00 increase and my submission went up but so did the links to the directory.Google shows 98 backlinks while yahoo shows 6607 ,google must be on crack lol

Velocity, yes raise your prices. I was shocked when I recently came to your site to submit, bargain for me, not so much for you. Your prices are too low for the value of the directory IMO.

I think if you can should do away with your basic options.
At the moment your submissions , i assume are 9.95 ones. And people wants to submit to your directory becos they like the PR i believe. And their objective is to submit to your directory at that particular page. And if your lowest is at $14.95, can i get you to agree with me, people should still submit, since they really like your PR? And your revenue will increase by about 50%..

And hence by doing away with this basic plan, i think your revenues should increase by 25% to 50% and you know what, it makes no harm to try it. You got nothing to lose..

Change it back to what it is now, if you have adverse results.. but please do test it for at least 4 weeks.

    My 2 pence.

If you want to populate your directory the $9 option with the site official name makes some sense, also easier to make refunds :D.

    Featured links should be year.

    Well,
I think I will definitely increase the prices somewhat in a few days, change featured to annual charge and probably remove the $9.95 option. I will see how this works out as traffic is sufficient to do some testing.

Thanks everyone for your help! :)
