    How would I make a post that adds itself straight to my category without posting on the main page.

    I'm not an expert, but I don't think there's a way to do this. You could create a page, which wouldn't show on the main page, but I wouldn't know how you'd make it show up in the category. Have you tried asking this at the Wordpress support forum?

    I'd advise the Wordpress Support Forum. Its not often you'll get a piece of software as popular as Wordpress, with its own dedicated support forum so go, use, and abuse :)

    There is a pugin which allows you to chose which categories to display on the front page, try googling for it.
