How do you define social media?

I know there are several definitions of social media out there on the Internet; but I was wondering if anyone here has any other insight or thought about its definition - and, by the way, the Wikipedia definition is currently in debate by some well known bloggers/marketers.

 

I'd define social media as any kind of digital channel which enables users to participate and interact.

 

The best way to define social media is in 2 parts. Media is an instrument on communication, a website online, so social media would be a social instrument of communication.

 

Social Networking Sites can be defined as Social Media in a simple word.

 

Social media is a medium that can be used for communication via Internet. And with social media, you can reach people globally and make interaction (socialization) instantly using different features such as chatting, messaging, and sharing.

 

Social networking is the grouping of individuals into specific groups.

 

The term Social Media refers to the use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into an interactive dialogue( wikipedia)

 

Some would call StumbleUpon a social networking site, and some would call it a social bookmarking site, both are social media. Even web 2.0 sites like Hubpages and Squidoo might even be classified as social media sites, if there is a discussion happening.
