    Advertising (learn more)

Advertise virtually anything here, with CPM banner ads, CPM email ads and CPC contextual links. You can target relevant areas of the site and show ads based on geographical location of the user if you wish.

Starts at just $1 per CPM or $0.10 per CPC.

This very well may qualify as a DUMB question :-)

if i have a true type-in traffic domain (that is just parked right now)...

and i simply "forward the domain" to a LIVE site i own...

are there potential drawbacks/penalties for doing so?

    * i do not need a 301, because i am NOT concerned about the traffic domain's (P)(R), indexing or ranking.

i am just wondering if it "okay" to forward traffic from a traffic domain to a LIVE website.

    thanks

If you don't care about pr,indexing or ranking I don't think there is anything to worry about.. If you plan on getting all your traffic outside of serps, than you can pretty much do whatever you want.

    Thanks AEIOUY,

Anyone else have specific experience and/or knowledge in this area?

    Thanks

P.S. When I say "not concerned about (P)(R) etc.," I mean for the TRAFFIC domain, not the LIVE site.

It's perfectly "OK". As long as you do the forwarding with some method that will ensure the live site's content doesn't also get indexed under the traffic domain (which could cause Google to hit you with a duplicate content penalty), there's no problem. So just do a 301 or 302, with 301 (obviously) being the preferred method.

why would you want it forwarded? and not just keep the page up...and put a fat hyperlink in the middle saying
    'please click to continue' ?

    hi all,

    thanks for the feedback/help.

i'm new to the traffic domain "stuff." so, i'm looking at my options.

i like the "single page" idea...
but, i just thought if it's a TRUE TYPE-IN domain and I simply forward it to a LIVE
website... isn't that a good way to get more/extra traffic to an already existing site?

    * but, i also DO NOT want to do anything that is frowned upon by search engines.

    * for some reason i thought that this is "common?" got a type-in traffic domain, set the domain to forward to a live site and bingo, instant extra traffic???

any more help/comments are very much appreciated.

    thanks again,

For one thing, to make everything as easy & quick as possible for your visitors, and not to loose any of them by forcing them to jump through unnecessary and confusing hoops ("there's nothing here, but click on this link to go to an entirely different site on another domain, it's worth it, we promise")

All sounds good to me. As long as you don't play the suicidal 302 game, it's definitely a good strategy. How well that traffic converts depends on how related the type in domain is to the landing page of the redirect but if sheer traffic numbers interest you already, go for it!
