Should posting threads like these be stopped?
"1000 Free avatars here" or something like that and then all the post contains is "post link please if you want it,rep appreciated"

Also I have a question,is requesting reputation through a private message allowed?

yup this has been really cheap with reps, this may lead to members being untrustable with good reps.

I think "rep appreciated" is not as bad as some other blatant rep requests I have seen.

Soju, I forwarded one of my private messages to you so you can see it for yourself ;P. Also doing this in the freebies section encourages a lot of useless posts.

the freebie forum was made in the first place to place all the worthless (free) posts.

there is no need to stop whats going on, its basically a good webmaster resource.

I dont think there is any need to stop them. Freebie posts are there to earn some rep and to offer interesting stuff to others. However, nobody should ask for Rep through PM after starting a freebie thread.

It is a quiet useful forum of course but, asking for reputation points is bit odd.

Freebies - all the free stuff should be placed there. Though if a user requires rep I don't think it's free anymore. When I offer free stuff like WP themes I always say that reps are welcome, but not required. :)

I don't think it should be stopped and if you want to give rep you can and if you don't then you do not have to. I have not seen anyone totally require it. I have seen beggars but I normally ignore them and if they PM me after I normally ignore that too. I try to give rep where it is due but never give it if they ask for it.

The free section is very useful and if DP starts to censor too much, we will start to lose members and that is not good for anyone. JMHO

Besides most of the older members take care of it, I wrote rep appreciated in the free section one time and I ended up losing 25 rep points so not to worry too much.

    three simple steps::)
    1) remove the reps option, in the freebes section
    2) don't count the posts there!
    3) if the freebes section can be made a no-follow attribute it will be even better!

Well Rep asking would not be allowed there because people will get Reps if he share some good free content. Also all users should post a link directly rather than posting/PM

I agree with you Karl, that is just blatant asking for rep to enter and the second time he did it for the same domain name.

If you do that, DP is better off just closing the whole freebie section. There are some good offers there and there are some abusers, deal with the abusers not stop the good users. I believe if you really find something offends you, you need to red rep them for it. If they end up going into the red most people won't deal with them anyway. I do not believe total censorship is the answer to the problem.

I don't think point no. 2 is a good option. The same can actually be said for other sections like Introductions, Entertainment, Religion and Politics forums also.

I dont agree with option 1 as some members really deserve a green rep for their free stuff.

i know those are a bit harsh steps!
but then, this option is pretty nice, put the links there as no-follow and stop the bots from entering the freebes section! then we can post links in there pretty peacefully!

then, post count in the introduction and the freebes should be stopped! those are useless posts, never contribute to the forum, so i guess this option is very much valid!

about the reps, i do agree! if someone is giving away stuffs for free, a rep is really deserved, so i can't say much on this topic! perhaps giving red reps on a rep begg is required! specially from the mods, as there red reps can give a better 20-30 negative points easily!
