I’ve seen a lot of “strongest†lists around where directories are ranked by their PageRank, which indicates this is clearly an important factor to many potential submitters. Is this a correct assessment? When developing new sites I generally pay close attention to the internal link structure in an attempt to funnel some of the main pages’ Google-juice on to key inner URLs. With a directory—particularly a new one—is there a favoured strategy to counter the effects of having a large number of off-site links at each successive depth of sub-categories, or does it turn out to be not much of a problem? So far I’ve only come up with attempting to generate a large number of incoming links from related sites to each category, so I’d be interested in hearing the thoughts of someone more experienced.
PR is a factor but only one in a matrix that need to be applied to ensure that your directory attracts traffic and review submissions If you have an inner page that you want to promote then that page deserves marketing just like any other page that you select to promote Remember that all the PR & PS this and that are one thing, but traffic and review submissions create not only recognition but they generate revenue too
Dont just look at homepage PR.. Its better to study the QUALITY of a directory before submitting your url.. Look inner pages, content, strength etc.
PR is one thing and link value (as in better performace on Google is another), I believe that PR get's passed no matter what, but link value only comes from trusted sources.
I appreciate that there a number of factors that a directory owner must take into account, but was interested in how people deal with the PageRank aspect in particular as I’m really stumped how best to proceed.
I don't think any sites "bleed" PR, it is a myth and has not been proven. As far as getting PR juice down to the inner categories it just takes time, usually 1 udpate get home page page rank then the next gets most categories, the third tend to stablize the page rank a little closer to the home page (within one) and get the rest of the second level categories, sometimes a few third level. I think building a few links directly to inner categories is a good way to make sure PR filters down nicely and I am told it will keep pages out of the supplemental index.
Well if you have alot of links pointing at your inner pages then you are on the right track. Keep doing what you are doing and watch it pay off. May the serps be with you
That’s good news, thank you. I guess I’ll take another look at some of the threads on link building for directories next then!
