Building sites that generate "hands-free" income

I'm really good at advertising and promoting sites, but horrible when it comes to monetizing them.

Besides just sticking adsense on a content site, because there's always the risk of getting banned: Are there any other ways to make "hands-free" income from sites, where the income depends solely on how much, how often, or how effectively you advertise the site?

The only thing that comes to mind for me right now is affiliate marketing, but I honestly have no idea where to start with that.

Would anyone care to shed some light on this? Much appreciated. :)

Hmm.. most sites that offer affiliate programs only offer affiliate banners, affiliate text links, etc.

Do you know any sites where I can find affiliate programs that provide free content and/or turnkey websites where the sales would automatically go through my affiliate ID?

Besides affiliates, another "hands-free" method if income would be to open a directory and sell links..

Affiliate marketing. Find a product.. Research keywords for it.. Build the site and include quality content focused around the keywords.. Promote the crap out of the content and focus on the keywords.. Don't forget your affiliate links/banners on your site so you can turn your targeted visitors into dollars.

    "hands free" income...

Whatever the topic is of your site, simply post some affiliate links for products that are related to your site.

I have to say, this isn't exactly true! I had malicious clicks on my ads, disabled my ad channel as soon as I saw them (same day, within a few hours of them occuring) and reported it to Google. They banned me anyway... And I didn't even do anything at all wrong!

i wouldnt choose to have affiliates which give you the content, as it would be distributed to many other users, so not unique. this means your site wouldnt make any organic traffic. people would see it and think.. its just "another oneof them.."

make it unique, provide a service (really useful information) and then try and sell them something.

I would say ppc ads and affiliate links are as "hands free" as they come.

I think he is talking about a Turnkey solution by which he can have or setup a fully functional website easily and promote affiliate products. Most of the affiliates sites only give banners, which are not so good in converting users IMO. For others like CJ, they give product listings, but it takes a lot of effort to get the products from CJ and add them to your site regularly. If you are a good programmer, maybe it will be a good idea to check Amazon Stores or check the CJ API Developer Network to setup a fully functional site to promote affiliate products and stuff.

If you already have a content site, why not just sign up with one of the affiliate programs, like Shareasale, cj.com or linkshare, and look up vendors that have products/services that compliment your site.

If you're interested in herbals, checkout joebucks.com. They might have what you're looking for re. pre-made store-type layout.

Look for an affiliate program that you like.. and then build a website based on it ;) It's much easier than.. building a site: then looking for a suitable program for it.

Yea...it seems like many newbie webmasters go this route (first starting out I did this too).. Building a site then trying to figure out how to monotize it - this is totally against the grain.. Instead, build your site around the offer + the keywords relating to it.
