I am hoping someone can help me solve this problem. I just recently created a blog using wordpress and I am having trouble adding categories. I make a name for it and press add and it does not add it or do anything at all, I'm puzzled.

When you write a new post, in the right sidebar, does the category you created show up ?

If there is no post in the category the category name wont show up on your blog, it will just be listed in wp-admin under manage-categories.

    Good luck

The categories don't show under manage-categories. When I fill out all the necessary info for a new category and press the button to add the new category it does nothing and resets the forms.

Thats weird. Try re-installing the blog.
    1) Keep a backup of wp-config.php and wp-settings.php
    2) Download WordPress(Make sure its the same version you are using atm, if now see step 5 also)
    3) Unzip files and upload. (Replace with old files)
    4) Replace back the backuped wp-config.php and wp-settings.php
    5) Run http://blogurl/wp-admin/upgrade.php. (Only if you downloaded a version newer to the one you are currently using)

That should solve your problem :).
