How frequent should you blog be updated with articles? Should it be on a daily basis or weekly basis etc?

The more the better is the best answer.
I used to update every single day, but now only 2 or 3 times per week.
The more you update it, the more fresh content the search engines will have to crawl and the better you will do in the SERPs.

Erm, probably - it's the fact it's new content that matters - not the length.

We update our blog several times a day. The blog that i have is not entirely blogged by me but also other people that i know (all computer science students) so our has daily fresh content that attract people.

Because of that we have around 300/600 unique users a day so i suggest you try to blog several times a day or find a few other people with the same interested to blog.

I don't like to do more than 2 posts in a day. I think there can be too much updating. You don't want to completely overload your visitors with content.

it's much better to have new posts every day, but if you don't have anything good to publish, then don't force yourself to do so. ;)

Well said shaneoj, I have been annoyed by many a blog that seem to post garbage because they feel compelled to post as frequently as possible. Post as often as you can post quality stuff.

Agreed on overposting. Try to post as often as possible, but don't sacrifice the quality just to have more content. That's a huge turnoff.

It seems like a good article per day is good, but it depends on the nature of your content.

WOLF WOFL LFOW ROFL ... Only when you have something to write... Imagine speaking 40 times an hour just to be heard - you'll only get the opposite effect out of it.

I agree. Once a day seems to work best for me. Readers don't have all that much time, so they might stop by once a day to take a look at what is happening. More than that seems to be overload. Less, they may stop coming back. But whatever you decide to do, keep it reasonable regular. What' readers don't like is coming back over and over again and finding nothing new.

It depends on the blog. If you have a news blog, then it's probably good to have a post for each newsworthy event that happens (for your niche) that day. You probably don't want to miss events, or your readers will go elsewhere for news. If that means posting ten times a day, then so be it.

Otherwise, what the other guys have said rings true. Once or twice a day should be sufficient.

I usually expect return readers to drop by once a day.
I originally was only going to post a few times a week, but now it's too late, I have to post everyday or I'll get behind, and most of my stuff is time sensitive, so I have let the genie out, but what ever your schedule, stick to it.
I think that is more important than how much, reliability.

It depends on you. If you have an interesting and quality article to post then post it. It doesn't matter how often you update your blog.

I started updating daily and the readers love it and they keep coming back. My blog is now my biggest earner making me more than my proxies. Whatever you do be consistent. If you are going to post once a day do it. Don't post once a day for a week and than not update for a month.

Dont update 2-3 times a week and than not do nothing. You will have no better way to lose your blog visitors than this.

I have wrote about it in this article you can read about it here: The Benefits of Blogging Daily
