India to manufacture $10 laptops

India has created a seismic shift in the computer industry by announcing plans to manufacture the world’s cheapest laptops at only $10 a unit. India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development unveiled the plan to produce a $10 laptop of computer, nearly one tenth the normal price, According to official sources, the $10 laptop scheme was created by India’s Vellore Institute of Technology, the Association of Computer Engineers at Bangalore and a group of computer programmers. The teams have already produced a $47 laptop but reportedly say their aim all along was to bring the price tag down even further to jut $10

 

That's way too cheap. How much did they charge to get them built? Probably not a lot at all! And they probably had to use cheap materials too.

You get what you pay for.

C'mmon a laptop for $10 is like WOW, whatever it is, it is a laptop.

 

I think it's complete BS. I have high doubts about $100. However heard about something around $300 or little more (in that I probably believe). But $10 for laptop ??? Please give me a break

 

Doesn't sound realistic as the cost of materials are already more than that. Not counting the manhour and other costs.

 

Oh, and can I see pictures and technical details of "already produced" $47 laptop ?

It is fake news. I don't think it is going to be that cheap anyway.

I myself live in India and I know that market is not that down for the computers, that also laptops. I am not telling that the thread starter is lying. But I myself cannot believe this.

they rejected the 100$ laptop n said they wanted to build their own

i guess it would be nothing more than a ... palm pilot kinda thing
