Reputations Issue

Shawn you should pull his adsense code - no reason to have a blocked ad on DP.

 

From last week

I noticed that too - too funny.

I think it's funny that I'm not the only one to select each option in the poll.

 

I gave a mod a red rep, and he replied with a greenie! So don't worry too much about the mods here, they can stand on their own.

Now, I don't think I would try to red rep Shawn, cause he might take away all my rep in one hit, just because he can. I have only once been tempted to do so, but the thought of being crushed like AC I didn't do it.

 

I'm not that bothered but its the first forum I've used that has the rep option turned on and its opened my eyes to why it doesn't really work. I've noticed that the really obnoxious posters here are either those with red rep (has mine changed yet ) who are pissed off and have nothing to lose or those who have loads of positives, have spent way too long posting on the forum and are so bored with newbies asking the same questions that they can't help themselves. Come to think of it I've a few like that on my forum and we dont have a rep system! When you tire of new members asking simple questions its time to take a break... The other problem is that as soon as someone with a red rep starts a thread nobody seems to take them seriously whatever the topic and they never get a second chance.

At least thats my drunken take on it tonight

PS I just got my first 'secret' neg for pointing out in this thread that the rep system isn't transparent and moderators can take advantage of it. Oh the irony of it

Man I wouldn't get so bothered about such a meaningless thing as the reputation system. If someone has a hundred greens and no friends on the forum it doesnt really mean much does it? A forum is a place to communicate with people, increase your knowledge and network. It's a place to discuss your opinions and listen to other peoples opinions. The rep system is just an interesting little add-on to give the posters some amusement while the slog out the posts. Someone who contributes with quality to a forum will soon start racking up the green reputations unless your name is hodgedup who just posts random comments.

Bottom line is if you don't post crap, and don't always ridicule people, than you won't have to worry about reds. Just keep up the informational, helpful posts and you'll get out of the red in no time.

Maybe. I reckon those with reds would have to work alot harder than normal peeps though. To be honest DP is pretty friendly 99% of the time and most posts are answered helpfully and with good humour. I'm not trying to bring the place down, just let off steam about a minor niggle

I started reading this and was nodding my head "yes that describes me" then when you said my name I thought wow that really describes me even more.

It's funny how people forget all of the threads that I help people in. Don't make me search for all 3 of them.

I think mods should stick to what their name is short for –models.

They should be walking around with pasties on not giving reciprocal rep. They’re not called recips.

 

Red rep is just there to remind you that you ruffled someone's feather, remember no publicity is bad publicity Besides, if your life revolves around the rep you receive here you are sad and you have my pity.
