lol, why the heck would you say that? A parlay is one of the most difficult bets, that's why they pay so much, and not many people know enough to risk their money on such bets.

I have won parlays at baseball for over 500 bucks with a $10 investment. I don't bet much on football, but I might give it a try.

And yes, the Caliente betting centers just rock!!

It is true, that Parlays and their cousins, Teasers are sucker bets. It is always a smarter investment to make all of the bets individually.

Yes Yes I know look at that great 8 to 1 payoff. But mathematically, you would be much better off being able to win partial amounts vs. all the times that 1 team loses and you get nothing.

If you read any books or online articles about sports betting, right there in 101 is forget about parlays and teasers. bodog.com used to have good articles along with their sportsbook. Also, the big forum for this kind of talk is theprescription.com

read up before you risk your hard earned money

those are payouts. There are 2 ways, a run line and moneyline. a run line is like a spread in football.

As for payouts, they always add up to between -10 and -20 which means the house is taking between 10 and 20 percent.

    Example:

Braves vs phillies tongiht. The braves are 1.5 run favorites. You can take the braves -1.5 which has a payout of +105. Meaning if you bet $100 you would win $105. If you took them on the money line (no spread) the payout is -127 meaning you would have to wager(risk) $127 to win $100.

If you took the philles, the two payouts are -125 and +117. If you add up the two payouts for the runline +105 and -125 you get -20. If you add them up for the runline you get -10. And hence the house always wins.

I find this thread very interesting (although I still like parlay bets as they are more exciting for someone who doesn't bet)...As a side note

Stopped into Ladbrokes...They don't accept Parlay bets on American Football

I am going to try the other bookies tommorow before I try out the online links given here

    Cheers

Hi, sorry i havnt posted this earlier.

I havnt read the whole thread so this has probably been answered but the answer to your initial question should be in this ebook. It basicly just goes through all the different types of bets and everything.

Fry, just basing it on one bookie's tales from yesteryear. I guess we could run some probabilities and figure it out, but I think you said it yourself...they are the most difficult bets. And, that most people don't know how to make those kinds of bets (meaning they shouldn't). From what I understand they are among the big money makers for sports books.

As for Cliente, I love those places. I will be at the one in Cabo in December...again. :)

OK, so none of the bookies here know what a parlay is (American Term?) - Anyone want to take a stab at what term below would be the same thing?

I don't see a "Multi" on that page. I talked to the local bookies today and apparantly the accumulator and parlay are considered the same thing.

The only thing is the don't pay out anything for picking 7/8 correct etc.

So I think I will just do a 4 team accumulator. Next stop, wings ;)

I just looked, and playersonly does what you're looking for - they call it a "progressive parlay" - basically, you pick 4-12 games and you win more based on the number of teams that won on your card. Here's their FAQ on it - strangely you have to create an account to even see that they have these bets though. I didn't find anything until I logged in.

Not trying to push them or anything, but they advertise on espn and they've paid me before, so I trust 'em. I don't have any affiliation.

No, thats helpful. There must be a difference between "Progressive Parlay" and "Parlay"

    I did enjoy this part
Lol, has never been rare for me

Right now I am going with the accumulator only because I can collect down the street if I win. I may very well give the site you mentioned a try though.

Slightly off topic but i was another site recently and a member asked for a slogan for his new Gambling site called "Lady Shamrocks Poker room"

the best idea for a slogan i read was definatly......

"Liquor in the front, poker in the rear"

    :D
