Did Google ruin the internet?

This questions just sort of popped in my head. Correct me if I am wrong but before Google made it so easy to monetize web pages, I don't remember there being some many junk pages going up, with only 500-600 word articles that seem to beat around the bush with keywords and never really finding a point.

I am guilty of it too. Why not? Its fun and can be rewarding. But it sure sucks when you have to research something and every SEO site says the same thing only just reworded.

So they may have improved how to search the net but they also stuffed the net with a lot of nonsensical webpages.

You had some of it before Google and with the growth of the Internet came more junk. I think it would have happened either way because if it wasn't Google, it would have been someone else. You can't blame Google for the problems of junk on the Internet. The worse problem is the control that Google tries to have over webmasters.

    Well someone certainly ruined it!

I rarely find what I need on page 1. Usually the best information is like in position 40-60 :(

I am with you on that one.

I don't know and this is hard to verbalize but by making it easy to monetize sites and having it based on keyword and quality keywords then its seems to ask for keyword stuffed pages not real content.

Normally the people with the best information are not trying to sell it but they are willing to put it out there for the public to see and the only people concerned with the search engine ranking are the people who want to make a profit.

Well, why else do you think this way? It's not google's fault it became so large. Without google, I believe a lot of sites wouldn't exisit because not only has Google made it easier to search, it has also helped webmasters with new ideas and the like.

Google is the reason you find them. If there was no google it would be hard to find them because no one would advertise them.

Allout is correct. If Google didn't do it, someone surely would have.

The proliferation of 500-600 word articles websites is one of the reasons why I think Adsense revenue is going down and also why Google is thinking about penalizing paid for posts and links. The quantity of information is starting to detract from the quality of information that can be found on the internet.

If they ruined it, they ruined something which they build in big part. One can be said for sure - they have great influence for internet reality. How to rate it? hmm...

At least the ads are small text and not gigantic blinking banners anymore.

Except for those stupid mosquito ones.

Google is the best search engine ... I think.
Realy bad sites exists because we want to be "on the first page" on Google.
For now Google is the big boss and because of Google we have a lot of work to do.

Wait right there buddy I think you are not yet familiar with the term reporting. If your quality is low your competitor would more likely or not report you to Google. This is the major reason why many website’s get banned from the engine without notice.

I agree... well I see a lot of junk info sites when researching for some topics.. but I guess for quality content, google would have to review each site (which is impossible)
