If its going to paid forum at least let some pay by monthly subscription.
That way it won't scared a lot of DP members off and it will entice visitors to try the forum out.

I'm sticking with DP no matter what the changes are.

I had a feeling when I saw Rob's post that it would lead to the BST area.

I would suggest to devaluate the posts in "Politics and religion" forum. Some members only post in that forum and hardly participate in general discussions about webmaster related issues. Some of them have over 10k posts (99% posts in Politics and religion) I think such posts are only valuable for priests and not for webmasters.

You should either make the b/s/t paid or shut it down...

    Thats my opinion...

Just make a monthly fee for sellers to list and free for buyers to browse :)

So long as it's not per thread, like Sitepoint. Have a monthly fee, say $5/mo, and although that's not a lot, if you get 5,000 people or so...

I agree that delegation owuld be a good idea. Not sure if you'll take note as I haven't been a member that long but I woudl suggest you moderate the areas you love the best yourself and maybe nominate 2 or three of your trusted associates to moderate the areas they have an interest in.

Don't know if you kn ow of any that woudl but it would certainly ease the burden.

I think you do a great job and have leaned loads since I joined and my thanks go to all that post such excellent content here.

Dp already has great moderators doing a bang up job - I was thinking along the lines of dividing pm's into sections and having people at least filter them for him and answer or forward as necessary. (that's just one idea) I don't know what else there is so can't offer other suggestions but this would be a good start.

    ROFL!

And then you see it get shut down in a second. A danger to the internet.... Seriously, big corporates kill small businesses.

Wanna fix your site??? Become Gamespot, buy multiple servers, and run baby RUN!

Go to a higher paying ad company.
Prune members who haven't been on in a long time... prune posts that are extremely old...
Delete obnoxious forums that have nothing to do with DP or Webmastering.

Just don't start chargin... or the IRS will come knockin' asking for more.

Making the forums paid wouldn't stop the thousands of daily emails and phone calls. I think Shawn is refering to the lack of help on his side not the lack of funds ;)

    Hey Shawn need help??? :)

It is no doubt a big issue when a community comes to big and other things are over shadowed, like Shawn’s other ventures. I think creative thinking is needed here, hecks maybe even a more structured system of control, be it not just Mods and Admins. There is a lot of great members here who would be willing to do a lot for Digitalpoint. Maybe have a system in which how things are controlled is changed, in aspects of like a government system in which top users get to decide important things for the forum, and slowly Shawn can do less and less with controlling the forum and more and more doing other things like pleasing his ISP Gold or whatever it is called customers.
