Hi, I just got a call from one of my friends saying he had been on my site and had clicked on about 5 or so ads, thinking he had done me a favour. At the moment I'm in the Sandbox so that accounts for more than a quarter of my daily clicks. Other than that I have followed Googles rules to the letter. Should I be worried or am I paranoid? Cheers
Yah, I believe you. Giving you the benefit of the doubt, no. I wouldn't be worried. ..Not unless you've checked your AdSense stats at your friends before. Then I'd be touching cloth. Pete
Thanks, I have checked it there before but it was probably a good 3 months or so ago, maybe more. Might not be a bad idea to let Google know though, they pretty good about that sort of thing if I drop them an e-mail?
If you've checked them at his house then yeah, I'd probably request they cancel those clicks and refund the publisher. At least it shows you're being pro-active, or something. I certainly wouldn't appologise, though. You didn't do anything wrong. Pete
Its like fight club: The first rule about adsense is that you don't tell your friends you have adsense.
Amend that to "friends and family." We (my wife and I) don't tell anyone how we make money- absolutely no one - that includes adsense or CJ or links or other affiliate programs or direct sales. When the question comes up we just say that we do Internet Marketing and leave it at that.
None of my friends, co-workers, or non-immediate family even know I'm in the web business. And it's how I'd like it to stay. It's funny hearing people talk about the site I created in school (since it's targeted at my classmates, http://bonnergames.com and I go to Monsignor Bonner Highschool) and I'll never reveal that I'm the one who made it. haha
I disable adsense ads on the accounts of my friends and family who use my site. Its easiar then trying to explain to them why they shouldn't click on the ads
I had family members who suggested they clicked on my ad's for extra money, took me 2 hours to explain to them that they should never do that, I now don't tell anyone
And that's EXACTLY why that's the #1 rule!!!!!! It's also a good idea to not tell your pet dog, pet rock, the fly in the bathroom, heck, don't even tell your deodorant!!!
if your deodorant is walking over to your computer and surfing online, perhaps it clicking on ads is not your biggest problem
I think there should be a TV show called "Adsense Stories". It would make for some damn good entertainment
