Help me understanding adwords

    Hi,
I started a campaign one week ago, I chose my keywords, built the ad groups to have everything the most targeted. The traffic estimator tells me my ads are going at the position 4-6 or 7-10, and the search terms are receiving traffic.

However in one week I only got 20 impressions, and I saw that a keyword gets a 45 position. Why the traffic estimator then said it would be at the 4th to 10th place ?

Who much did you budget into the campaign ? If you want to be higher than always monitor the adword account because someone else may have outbeated you. Once you set yourself at a certain bid rate, your position is not fixed like how you were able to knock someone else out of their current position by bidding.

The higher you bid will ensure that you are higher up in the list. If you only include a small budget then they will try to do a slow burn so that your budget will stretch through the month. You might want to up your budget to several hundreds a month if you want to have better positions and be shown more.

check your budget, revise your max CPC and again try to get a traffic estimation... The thing is that Google gives an approximate... even if it says 1-3 position for a particular keyword while checking it through traffic estimator, while working with those keywords show them at 5-8 position..

And not only positions even the traffic sometimes is questionable.

The traffic estimator is not very reliable - in fact it's completely pants.

The only way to find out how it's going to cost to appear in different positions is to try different bids.

Change your bids a few times, and you'll soon be able to calculate your most profitable position (higher = more traffic, lower = better ROI)

Thank you everyone for your replies and time. Will "play" with the bids.

Just be careful don't get caught up trying to outbid everyone. Set a budget and stick to it.
