I can think of three very good reasons for submitting regularly to free directories: 1. Every submission gets you a link back to your site. It may or may not send much PR your way (for those to whom that is important). But the prevailing wisdom is that every legitimate inbound link helps your site. 2. I have seen again and again that originally free directories to which I have submitted have ended up as paid directories passing good PR from the sub-category page. Most such directory owners are kind enough to keep all the original free submissions when they turn paid. 3. By submitting to new, free directories owned by Digital Point members, you are helping fellow DPers get their directories off and running. A simple way to do this, taking perhaps 5-10 minutes per day, is this — go once each day to DP's "Directories > Soliciations and Announcements" section. There you will typically find three or more new, free directories offered by DP members each day. By taking a few minutes to submit, over the course of a year you will have gained over 1,000 inbound links with just a few minutes' time each day. And some of those links will begin passing to you some good PageRank benefits.
Good post and rep added. I received a pr4 on the first update of LInkLister mainly through submissions here, also many of the sites which submitted to my free promotion are now on pages with pr in a strong pr5 directory. These days I'm more selective but there are always some very good offers on this forum for savvy submitters.
Good to hear you have gotten good results this way. And thanks for the green. That reminds me of something I forgot to mention above. Concerning free directory submissions, if I have rep to give each day, I like to pass some of it on to newer DPers who offer free directory submissions. It's a small 'thanks' for providing a free link.
Three weeks isn't very long. Just keep working on improving your site every day and keep getting backlinks and you should see results in about 3 months.
gydqw, you almost certainly missed the recent PR update. Your site is too new to have received PR in that update. But keep working on it and submitting to DP members' directories, and you will almost certainly have more PR in the next update.
not quite true......many directories won't even accept your link and second:even more directories will remove free links when they have a better PR or/and turn to paid i prefer exchanging links....but around here only a few are interested in that everyone seems to want just free links...but nothing is free as I know.... 1000 links from free directories....I wanna see that can you show me an example?
1. There are plenty of free directory submission offers in Digital Point's "Solicitations and Announcements" section each and every day. You will receive almost 100% acceptance submitting to them, unless there is something wrong or spammy about your site. 2. 1,000 links from free directories is simple. Do the math. Average 3 submissions per day times 365 days in a year, and that is over 1,000 links annually. You can easily find those 3 free directories each day at Digital Point.
no one will keep a free link in a directory for a year when it turns paid, your free link will be removed first happened many times to me
No one? Are you sure. When the directory in my sig turned to paid all the free links were kept and free links are being added daily. Why in the world would a directory shoot itself in the foot by removing content? Content is what makes a directory good and the only content a directory has is its listings. Jim's math is correct, you'd be wise to take his advice if you can spare the 10 minutes a day it will take to implement his plan and find out. Stick around and learn grasshopper.
Certainly some directory owners have been known to remove free links when they go paid. But many do not remove them. I've been pleased on numerous occasions to find a link to my site, with nice PR, in a paid directory that I got into free before it went paid.
I think free directories are good as part of a link buidling mix but I only spend my time submitting to the ones that look like they will last. Honestly when I see a nice new paid directory come out with a custom theme or a customized free theme with a decent logo I would rather spend my time and a few bucks submitting to those, because chances are they will last and grow over time. Just today I saw a post to submit to a new free directory (PR something from a dropped name) and the theme they are using is all broken with odd spaces all over the home page. If the owner does not even take the time to put up a decent looking free theme then what are the chances they will still be around 3 or 4 months from now, close to zero I am guessing. Submitting to directories can be very time consuming and since my time = money I am careful how I spend it.
The time = money point is a very good one for most people. We want to get the most "ROI" on our investment of time, money, or whatever. For many of you, your strategy of submitting only to the free directories that "look like they will last" is wise. By contrast, I'm retired and can afford the time to take more of a "shotgun" approach and aim at every target that moves.
