I've ranked for harder keywords, and breaking in to the top ten is definately possible from the top 20 sites i just analyzed.

Interesting, i had no idea the Viagra market was so lucrative for a top 10 placement.

Yes, the viagra market is very lucrative, i think am able to rank a website top 20 for viagra too, i'll definitely considere this project later when i have the time (for me not a client), i just need to buy a website that have the word "viagra" in the url, is already in the top 200, 2 years old at least because it will be really hard to start from scratch.

Umm not too much traffic, it's ranked high in MSN so that's bringing the majority of traffic right now. I'd expect traffic to rise once it's on page 2 or 3. I'm unsure of revenue...

    Harder keywords in what market?

Yep, that'd be a better option rather than starting from scratch. My clients is as old as i've been working on it (about 3 months).

Good question. There are lots of areas with "harder" (great pun in this thread :) ) keywords than Viagra. But Viagra sure ain't no walk in the park.

    Software/Computers/Windows

True Viagra isn't just a walk in the park, there's some "stiff" competition but i've outranked sites with more going for them then some of the top 10 for this term.

Might be something worth exploring if the market is as lucrative as people are saying.

All of the 1st page results from Google for the keyword "buy viagra" are from spammed .edu links. That's funny and interesting I have to say.

The problem is, where are you going to get links for your Viagra site? Who is going to be willing to link to you?

Keywords like software or computers may indeed be far more competitive as there are many mature, high trust rank, high page rank sites in that niche. But getting links to rank for those terms is FAR easier. Simply because of the nature of that niche. There are lots and lots of sites to get computer and software links from by the whole gammit of link building means. But with Viagra you are, probably, very restricted in where you can even get links. White hat links that is. Even buying links (grayish hat) would be difficult.

phentermine. Rank for that you'll kill it ( at least you would have until just recently). This makes much more than viagra. However it's tough to find a pharm that isn't offshore and even tougher one that will actually pay what is owed.

Almost all of the .edu results have been removed by their hosts.

I guess the gravy train doesn't last long. ;)

Spam-hosting .edu (and other) sites can take actions more effectively and much faster than Google by removing such kind of spam. Google always prefer automatic ways to solve such spam issues and would rarely do any manual removal of the spam (automatic ways are indeed better in all aspects). So I guess that it's the hosting site's responsibility at the first place to remove spam from their sites and look for ways to prevent or at least reduce it.

Yeah that's a good thing :D I'm tracking the SERP's for quite a few competitors and some of them seem to be dropping which is hopefully because of the Alg update a while back..! :)

Axemedia , sounds like u can still get in trouble. I still think my seo can do this with whitehat only. I really dont need to because im planning on him seoing a huge number of sites for me and sharingthe revenue with him, when that is done im afraid i wont have much time to spend on the boards but i will always love digital point and will always post here because for me it feels like a second home. I must be crazy huh lol

Most the ones on page 1 and 2 have been deleted, but when you go deeper to page 3 and beyond there is still LOTS of live ones. These will slowly move up the ranks again, I think, and replace the old ones.

How am I getting in trouble? I'm not playing the Viagra game, just observing.

I'm sure it can be done by whitehat methods. Of course it can. It just wont be easy.

Most pharmacy terms are hacked in google by the edu/org sites.
You will need a hugh effort to beat this gang.

Anyway if you're still capable to rank a site for drug terms, you're in the way of very good SEO money.
