I consider the sponsoring of wordpress templates a sort of word of mouth / viral strategy. Same applies in general to the whole web2.0 thing with adding friends, uploading videos, sharing mp3, podcast or whatever helps you to spread your message (in case you might have any)
I was just reading a press release where a insurance company released a flash game a couple of weeks ago and they were able to get over 1.000 000 million people to play this game.

if you have the next super duper web 2.0 idea I really would appreciate it if you share this idea with me :D

The next big strategy is definitely going to be something web 2.0 like (interactive) but that's quite vague.. hmmm..

    Great question, and thought-provoking responses.
Web 2.0 is certainly the wave of the future...but what is beyond this?
For every new application, there is another about to catch it.

I think whatever is new will keep the web 2.0 concept but make it more efficient... web 3.0:cool: when will that come?

    Some trends I see...

    - Investing in global online markets, targeting not just the us
    - Multi lingual, global search engines, .local domains

    - Usage of web analytics in a more detailed level
    - Greater utilization of Google analytics, web trends, etc
    - Ability to trace keywords though paths to key outcomes

    - Increased frequency of modification of web content, more content including video, interactive community building, rss

I think second life is a silent one in that a lot of people are afraid of it. It keeps on growing and the companies on board now are a lot like it was when PPC was new. Early adopters were making out well. So this one will be very interesting to see how/when the mass general business start getting into it.

In-game contextual ads in video games (PC, Xbox 360, PS3, etc)

Soon we'll be buying ads in games through an interface just like Adwords. And probably from Google too, as they own Adscape Media now.

Example: players will see a pr0n store in the background of the game, click it (or hit X or whatever), and go to an adult website and download whatever they were looking for.

Yes my point is it's not as mainstream as say google adwords. Big companies are on it but not many mid-sized companies. Just like when the Internet came along, big companies were some of the first. Mid sized firms were slow adopters.

Developing successful tools have always been the way to make your site explode - look at seobook.com for example..

I came to this thought too already...seems a great marketing strategy. Make a concept, take a freelancer to program, and Voila!

Myspace, social networking sites, etc, etc are examples :p

However, yes programmers can make neat things but they're the ideas that give birth to these brilliant marketing ideas :D !!!

I would hope that good content will ALWAYS be the best marketing strategy...or the only websites we'll see are website marketed well with crap content.

    amen to that.
Interactivity is good but without real content it really isn't worth much.

That's a VERY good point. That's why Squidoo sites recently lost big in google rankings. There will always come up new platforms which become a hot thing to marketers, then get loaded with crap content and then it will get weed out somewhat and come more to balance. Good content will always win in the LONG run.

As time goes by I realize that video is going to be the next big thing. Actually it has already become the big thing.

A combined approach of using the best elements from all: Web 2.0, Video, Audio and of course, articles.

The strategy of how to best use those, is something that one might consider.

As far as tools/platforms, I would think that it would deal with the solving of problems of delivering good content in all of it's various forms.

    Again, very interesting thread.

Keeping an eye or two on this one.;)

    Jack:)
