Why the hell is DigitalPoint selling their webmaster email database?

Well all of use your E-mail option on DP so Spammer easily send a mail by DP.:) If you have really big problems than you should disable your email option here.

I am sure most of us here not using it because we have IM ids.:)

Well, I received that email too, but I have never enabled my e-mail option on DP.

The email address used to contact with me was a junk-address that I use sometimes when submitting to directories, so probably the emails are from a directory owner, and there are so many here at DP :(

It's enabled by default, and if you'd like I can email you...as you've never turned it off.

Though, by default, any email sent from here, should actually have something about Digital Point in the subject, or at least message body, as it's a form system, and the actual email address of the people you send a message to is never known (Unless you replied).

Man that seems like a lot of work to go into individual users and email one at a time - even when the email is enabled you can't harvest the address so it would have to be done that way. - yes, I got it too.

    Lisa

Edit: Sorry folks, that isn't it! If you send an email through the dp system the sender comes as yourname@digitalpointforums and the top of the message shows like this

So people getting this message ... your email address is "out there"!

I was also trying to say part of it, how it would take ages to send individual emails to hundreds of people. Also what I didn't know was that at the top it says the email was sent from DP so obviously our emails have been set free!

It's important to note that if you reply to such an email you ARE giving your address out, as you'll be replying from your inbox rather then from the form here on DP.

At least I think that's how it works ;)

Sorry to jump on this late but just to give a bit more context to these guys check out their McAffee Site Advisor Entry:
    http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/thagodz.com/
"In our tests, we found downloads on this site that some people consider adware, spyware, or other unwanted programs.
ActiveX: ysb_regular.cab (ysb_regular.cab) installed the following programs on our PC: Adware-ISTbar"

So this is either a monumentally stupid spamming operation, or more likely, a spyware spreading operation. I haven't checked if the site is still sending down ISTBar since I'm at work and I don't have hard core protection here like I do at home.

    ******************
Greetings member of Digital Point forum:

If you are a business offerring a product or service, you need to outreach with advertising. Whether you find it best to use telemarketing, postal marketing, or email marketing, you WILL need data lists for this venture. And there's no cheaper, more reliable company to get your data lists from than Email4marketers. Go to their homepage right now (email4marketers dot net) and run a GEO-TARGETED search for free to see what kind of results you can get!

With GEO-TARGETED data and info, you can start your advertising campaign. Whether it be to mail out flyers/coupons/promotions to people living in your zip code, or calling prospective clients on the phone with these leads, or fax-blasting to other businesses offerring your product, THIS is HOW you market!

...after you visit our site, you will never again pay high prices for email lists, optin/coreg data, or any other kind of marketing data including fax lists, full data lists, data directories, and more of the highest quality data that can be used for email, telephone, and postal marketing! Email4marketers.com is better than it has ever been - carrying on with the same tradition of low prices... but now with better quality data!

We offer GEOGRAPHICALLY TARGETED DATA. That is, data from a specific city or state.. whether you need EMAIL data, ADDRESS data, or TELEPHONE data, we can offer it as GEO-TARGETED data for the cheapest of any data broker on the Internet: pennies.

The forum isn't hacked. Its just someone who has mailed you using 'send an email address' option in your user profile.

You can send an email from any email address you want. Just a bit of programming, that's all.

Look at header of the email it will tell you more about the origin.
