HELP: How to upload all files via CuteFTP except jpegs

Discussion in 'Services' started by browntwn, May 6, 2007.

$10 to the first person who can tell me how I upload all files on my site except the .jpg or .jpeg files.

payment via paypal as soon as it works.

I am using CUTEftp MAC, so that is the only program I am interested in having this work for.

This is a problem that has been causing me problems for years. I usually upload everything again, even though my images never changed, just html and php files.

    Thanks.

    1. Where do I find that screen?
    2. What do I type in that field to get what I want?

Happy to pay once I get it working. I did not see a "FILTER" option on my program.

    Thanks,

    browntwn

sorry I cant tell you how to use cuteftp, but you might consider a differant program. I just started using wincsp and there newest version (beta maybe) supports ftp, but in winscp you click mark then select all, then you click mark again and choose unselect and it pops up a box where you can just type in *.jpeg which will deselect all jpeg images.

    there site is winscp.com

What does that have to do with the question?

I am glad you use it, but do you have any suggestion or just posting for the heck of it?

Okay, and using that software how to I upload an entire site skipping the jpeg files?

It is just the one issue I want to resolve. I am happy to use any OSX software. The issue is being able to upload/update a site of mine but without having to waste the time and bandwidth re-uploading images. I am talking hundreds of megs of images, so it is a huge waste of my time to not be able to skip the images. They are across all folders, so it has to be some setting that allows those files to be filtered and not uploaded.

Sorry, I didnt see the MAC in your post. My suggestion certainly wont help than, but in your last post you stated you dont want to reupload the files. Thats a little differant, if that is the case, then what program do you use for building your site in?

the reason I am asking, is because in Dreamweaver, if it is setup properly, it only uploads new or changed files. In fact I'm sure cuteftp has that same option.

    try this:

    To transfer filtered items

1.Select the pane displaying the files or directory you want to apply a filter to.

    2. From the menu, choose View > Filter... The Filter dialog appears.

    3. From the Filter Properties tab, select Enable filtering.

    4. If you want to filter at the folder level, select Apply filtering to folder names. If a filter you add matches a folder name, the entire contents of that folder are included or excluded along with the folder.

    5. If you want the filters to work during transfers, select Apply to file transfers.

    6. Select the Filter Mask tab and add any files you want to include.

    7. Select the Filter NOT Mask tab and add any items you want to exclude.

    8. SelectOK.

    9. Select the files that remain visible and choose File > Upload Advanced > Upload filtered from the menu (or Download filtered if you are downloading.).

Thanks for the idea. I will try again when I get home from work.

I do make some changes in Dreamweaver, but these were a simple series of find a replace that I did across thousands of html pages. I did not make the changes in DW, and I usually don't use it to upload to my sites.

I will check all my options again when I get home.

    Thanks for the help.

If you can't find it, you might as well try something else.
From what I have heard Panic's Trasmit is very good.

I never used to use Dreamweaver to upload my sites, until my sister started maintaining her own site. So to make it easy for her, I set up "sites" in Dreamweaver and man, I couldn't believe how easy it was, now I maintain a lot of sites with the built in ftp in Dreamweaver. You never have to worry if you are putting the content in the right place or nothing.
