Can anyone tell me how good is it to be accepted by DMOZ. If it is as good as everyone says it is, are the there any ways to spped up approval?

    Short answer:

    1. It doesn't make nearly as much difference as many webmasters think.

    2. No.

Do I smell another 'heated' discussion starting? :(

Dmoz is not really worth the bother in the long run

Whatever the benefits of a listing might be (and that is up for debate), it's not something to spend more than a few minutes on. The review procedures are so random that a lot of reviews take so long that basing any sort of SEO or website promotion campaign on getting an ODP listing isn't worth it.

Just submit once, and move on, would be my advice.

Since I have not submitted to DMOZ yet I don't have an opinion that means much, however I can say that some of their editors are bloody rude.

    1. I agree with minstrel.

    2.
I agree, suggest your site and forgot, and don't waste time making posts on forums about how bad it is. That's the only thing that makes it a bother.

Do it right, do it once, and forget about it! Just as Alucard said.

Dmoz is a good thing to have under your belt. Dmoz isnt the only thing you can do and many webmasters stress over it more then they should.

If you take the advice above, you'll never run into that "rude" editor Ernster found. ;)

Become an editor, remove the queues everywhere else so that the editor who should be reviewing your site has nothing else to do but approve it [IMG]

You'll get a link. Period. One that will add to the number of backlinks to your home page and therefore help, like any other backlink, with the PR for that page. Other than that, nobody but you and a DMOZ editor will ever care whether it's there or not.

    1. the word is spelled "you", not "u" (not directed solely at ozband) </petpeeve>

    2. I suspect that is no longer true for Google and I would also suggest that it won't be true for much longer anywhere
