How do I do it with name servers when I move to a new VPS ? I use my own name server at the VPS I am currrently using, do I have to move the name server, configure it or what ? I don`t understand this.

    Please help, thanks.

    Its cPanel, WHM.
The problem I have right now is that I cannot make addon domains on my new VPS.

    Error :

Error from park wrapper: Using nameservers with the following IPs: ***** and ***** Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ip.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver.

Oops, I do not quite visit this place often enough when I am asleep ;)

Any case, log into WHM and go to 'Tweak Setting' then uncheck 'Allow Creation of Parked/Addon Domains that resolve to other servers (ie domain transfers) [This can be a major security problem. If you must have it enabled, be sure to not allow users to park common internet domains.]' . That should allow you to work around the issue.

Thanks eddy, I should have know better than to ask when you are sleeping:D

Is this only a workaround ? I would like a normal solution though, specially if its a security risk involved.

Yes, it is the only work around for Cpanel because if you check that option, it will always check. What I will do is to uncheck it, do the transfer than check it back again.

The other option may be to do a Server to Server transfer, then it would not do the check.

Alternatively, on your old site, you can do a Backup to an FTP account on the new VPS then move the .gz files to the /home folder and do an Account restore.

I'm a little confused as to what point you are at....

If you are moving from one vps to another with your own custom nameservers, you basically have 2 choices.
    a) You can keep the nameservers (let's say it's ns1/ns2.domain.com) or
    b) You can create 2 new nameservers (ns3/ns4.domain.com)

There are upsides and downsides to both.

If you are still in the process and need explanation, let me know by replying

    Hi cyanide.
I got an explanation also that when the main domain is still pointing to the old server, I cannot make addon domains on it on the new server without using Eddys solution.
And yes, I want to continue using the same custom name servers.

Just change the two name servers IPs to the IPs of your new VPS.

So I used Eddy`s solution. Now I will transfer all the files from the old to the new server. What FTP program can do that for me ?

Is the custom nameserver domain a reseller account and are all the domains/accounts under this reseller account?

If so, then probably the best/easiest thing to do is a server-to-server copy.

**Trying to remember off the top of my head**
Go to the new server and click Show/Edit Reserved IPs from WHM
Now decide which of these ip addresses will be the 2 for the new reseller account.
Check off all the ip addresses, except the one you will use as the new ns1.domain.com
(If you don't do this, the server will just randomly assign an ip that you may not want)

Now click Copy multiple accounts from another server
Enter all the info for the old server (ip, choose root, choose password, enter password) - then click Fetch Account List

ON the next page, you should now have a list of all domains on the old server.
Scroll to the bottom and choose the reseller username from the drop down
Click Select Matching Reseller Accounts to check off all domains under this account
Scroll up to the reseller domain and check off the box beside it under the column Give Ip Address
Scroll back to the bottom and click Copy
Give it some time to run through, then all accounts are copied over.

That's the main copy over, but you're not done yet... I will reply again with the rest

    Thanks cyanide.
I have already made all the accounts/addon domains on the new VPS now. So what I basically need now is a good method for transfering the files. Then I will change the name servers IP and everything should be ok, I hope.

Now at this point, you could speed propagation up a little by going to your registrar and changing to the new ip addresses for ns1/ns2.domain.com
or you could wait til the end.

Now at this point, just a bit of maintenance, because the WHM copy over feature doesn't always copy over everything, so you just want to make sure.

Log back into WHM of the new server and click Reseller Center
From the Select a Reseller: drop-down, choose the reseller username and click Edit Privileges/Nameservers - on the next screen you want to make sure you have the proper settings. eg) Account Creation Limits, Feature LImits and at the bottom the primary and secondary nameservers. If they are not there, enter them, then click save.

Go back to the Reseller Center again, choosing the username and click Manage Ip Delegation, make sure restrict ips is selected, then save

Go back to the Reseller Center again, choosing the username and click Manage Main Shared/Ipless Ip
Most likely it is showing the ip of your new server, so you should change this value to the new primary ip address you chose (left unchecked) earlier and save.

Now click List Accounts - find the domain which is your primary/reseller domain, and make sure the ip beside it, is this new one and not the server ip, change if necessary. - while you're there look at all the other domains, to make sure they show this new ip also... they should.

The last thing now, is the DNS, so click Edit DNS Zone under DNS Functions , choose your primary domain and on the next screen, make sure the A record and ns records are correct.
The only change you may have to make here is ns pointing to the ip address, which should be notable if the last line is your mx record.
In which case, at the bottom, under Add New Entries Below this Line put

You only need to add to the first and 4th column in the first 2 lines, like so
    ns1 | 14400 | A | xx.xxx.xx.x1
    ns2 | 14400 | A | xx.xxx.xx.x2

    then click save
Lastly go into Show/Edit Reserved IPs and check off the primary ip you are now using, keep checked the secondary ip and uncheck the unused ip addresses.

    whew... hope this helps

Oh, you created all the accounts/domains on the new server manually?
wow, you just gave yourself more work to do....

The problem with your method, is you will have to create everything manually
    email, databases, ,etc.
With the WHM copy-over, it copies all settings.
    I guess it's a good thing you checked :)
So , right now you're stuck.. how many ip addresses came with the vps?
Usually atleast 2 for the server, but you'll need 2 more for this account
