We went live on April 1st, and starting doing SEO since mid-June. We are averaging 250-300 unique hits a day, which I think is pretty good for a new kid on the block (not that lame 80's band, either hehe). The way we did it was content. Our site is around the 25,000 page mark, and growing.

Giving visitors a reason to comeback to your site really helps too. That will be in our next version of our site.

    Again Jim,

What are you selling? At what price? Why are your margins "not high enough"? What's the URL of the site that needs the traffic?

Hard to really help someone when shooting in the dark.

Ok. it's jewelry. I visited your other threads and found your site. Which is nicely done but lacks the personal touch and strong customer-service orientation that jewelry needs. It's a touchy-feely product, so it needs touchy-feely marketing.

A quick way to win traffic and get better notice in Google etc., is to offer products routinely on eBay. I do it all though the fur selling season and it works wonders for my traffic and sales. I don't sell much on eBay but I do get traffic that converts into other purchases.

Another good tip is to also sell though eBay stores, Paypal stores and Amazon.com. The more Web channels the better, for both traffic and sales. Just avoid duplicate content, so Google doesn't penalize you. Also make sure you always link back to your main Web Site.

"I am thinking about giving some thing FREE that is an added value to my targetted visitors. for example, I will give a FREE ring for jewelry site. visitors require to sign up my newsletter and the giveaway runs weekly."

It is at a minimal cost to you, but you have to make sure enough people are aware of the promotion - you may have to advertise the promo itself. :)

    Jim,

Thanks for the look at your other sites. You've been a busy boy. Are you using osCommerce for some of those sites, or what?

I notice you promoting price on the battery site and that's a good thing. My experience is that price price price drives Internet sales. It's a dog-eat-dog-how-low-can-you-go world.

Is price competition the reason your jewelry sales are flagging?

I suppose you are aware of how low, low prices drive jewelry sites like bidz.com http://web-1.bidz.com/allAuctions.html

When I get some free time, I will summarize for you the dozen marketing eggs we always put in our clients Web baskets.

Regards and keep up the hard work.

thanks googles...my sites are using VP-ASP. it's feature rich asp script.

i love them...it's so easily mange...looking forward to seeing your list of marketing strategires.

about pricing , with the same exposures , yes..pricing is the main factor.

but i have seen sites sell higher than mine in price...still doing well since they have much better exposure..i know their strategy but can't beat them since they spend much much and really much more than me in marketing.

they need to keep the price higher to make it profitable for them.

    Big fish eats small fish...:-(

btw, i wish my organic seo effective soon. Can't wait to enjoy conversion.

    regards

There is no one approach that works. One method I've used with great success is to approach sites larger than yours, but not directly competing with yours, and offer them some form of a revenue share on transactions. This is basically a direct affiliate program - make the %'s attractive to the site who holds the traffic. I've typically offered as much as 75% of the profit from a sale to the referring site. They have the traffic - you need it - make it worth their while.

If you don't, your competitor will.

I have a jewellery site which isn't too great at the moment either. It's at www.jewellery-design.co.uk and I think there's 2 reasons at the moment why it's not had the best of starts..

    1. She wants to sell items via email. Bad mistake in my eyes but that's what she wanted.
    2. Limited offline marketing done.

It's also more designer jewellery as she hand crafts the pieces and they are quite expensive.

    vorapolpanya,
I would say do joint ventures with complentary sites. Even if the margin is low, offer them all the profits for the first sale to quickly build up your traffic and customer base. The lifetime value of the customer is what you want.

I just started offering various incentives - most of which are scripts / tools / extensions. So far with very little avail. Hopefully its my execution opposed to theory.
