Never underestimate the marketing power of PRs. I know of a site that did only one and never bothered thinking about other sources of traffic because of the flow of traffic it had. The effect is compounded if the PR site offers categorized RSS feeds and you happen to submit in the right category.

This is quite timely for me - I was just going to ask today about press releases and the best way to go about them! Any recommendations for reviewing a press release before it goes out? Once I write one up and submit it, does the service review it and append to it any comments it has regarding the content before sending it out? If there are any experts here on press releases that wouldn't mind reviewing mine, PM me and let me know. I'd appreciate any help and advise on this. Thanks!

@ Yellowberry - Im writing a longer press release for PRweb because they are a much more professional service than most of the free ones, and with free ones a short and to the point press release is more effective and has a higher chance of people clicking the destination url which in the end is my goal. @ Mibs - The traffic didn’t convert too well, I got 8 donators so far so approximately 1 donator for every 1000 visits. I have sent some more press release to health news sites so that traffic should be more targeted. @ Goodstar – I’m still waiting for my stats to updateïŠ

that is a creative idea and you have a nice site. press releases is a good way to build traffic for the site but there is other ways get more backlinks such as forums, classified ads, blogs, articles, link exchange partners, social bookmarking and update your content for your blog site and as well your site. users like a site that is informative and useful to them.
