what is most important when MSN looks at a site? Backlinks? Content, Meta Tags, etc I am trying to get my rankings back up with MSN so I am wondering what I should concentrate on.
When you say they like links does it matter if they come from high PR pages or is that something that google pays more attention to?
Links is definately the biggest single factor. IMHO. As for higher PR versus lower, I would say just go after themed and quality (as in what your visitors would want to see). This way you cover the bases for MSN, your visitors and other SEs like Google.
PR is Google's interpretation of page importance. MSN does require backlinks but not as much as google, or perhaps, with a different flavor. G! and MSN are 2 worlds apart but they do meet on rational grounds since a high PR page in google means an "important page" which both parties would consider to rank in their serps. Hence you can only expect to benefit from a high PR page as long as it's related to your site's theme.
Keyword density and the title tag.... Have ONLY your keywords in the title and have those same keywords throughout the page with a density of >%15, and you will reach page 1.
According to me it gives more value to anchor text. Get your links from high PR pages with the right anchor text and you should do very well in MSN.
I agree this should not be done. The "more Important" search engines would hack you to pieces. But if for any reason at all you wanted top spots in msn, this is the way to go...
Thank you for all the helpful information. I figure I need to concentrate on MSN now because due to some bad SEO advice I was delisted from google. I think I have fixed the problem and I am hoping that I will be included again. When I do a cache:mysite.com it is listed from 8-18-05. A month ago that wasn't even there.
Yahoo and Money, Yes... MSN likes inbound links with keywords in the anchor text. They also like on-page SEO and fresh content.
Yes. I agree in Search Engine Optimization good theme-based backward links are very important . And don't forget on Page Factors are also important. If you have coding errors your rankings probably won't be the best. So programming your web page for better search engine placement should also consider SEO Programming. Check out www.seoprogramming.com. This site has something to say about it.
Links are important, but the title tag should also be sharply focused on your target term. It will punish sites using a wide range of terms in the title tag and reward those who stick to the search subject.
Agreed - I recently changed my title tag from 74 to 60 characters, added some H1 and H2 tag and was bumped from 5th Serp to the 1st.
I was being sarcastic Anyhow it don't matter coz Balmer is on record as 'going to F**K Google' MSN likes anchor text links, and it especially likes nice navigation structures.
1. You would want to begin with fresh content to provide to MSN as you would to any other engine. 2. Have your keyword in your title tag. However don't make it long and full of commas. A nice title that describes your website and includes the keywords is very welcome by MSN. 3. Make sure your basic on-page SEO is met. Includes the basics such as headers and use paragraph format for the content. I would suggest not going over the 5% Keyword density mark as you don't want this to affect ranking in other engines for spam or keyword stuffing. 4. Begin your link building strategy. Use anchor text for the keyword your targeting to link to your website. Msn enjoys a wide selection of links and directories help. 5. Update your website, keep the fresh content coming so the ranking maintains.
