On that topic. It's really inane that this rule would exist for a number reasons. One is, can't you just get around it by saying, "I'm not selling a link. I'm selling an advertisement spot. This advertisement space happens to give people the ability to link to their website (as any Internet ad space would.)" Doesn't this technically get around Google's new "rule," or is my analysis lacking?

Yep, What google wants is put those sold links in a JavaScript which will only be helpful for transferring few people to their site. but does not effect in terms of serp and PR (backlink)

Is there software you can use to make it look like your site has a no follow tag around links, when in fact the tag isn't really there?

No man there is no such software, if there is even one and you use that one you will be out of web business in minutes.
Google will haunt your website and de-index it completely.
Always try for legit steps, even if you criticize some times.

Yes, why would anyone link to the actual URL of a site anymore? What a silly idea. The job of a webmaster these days is to do whatever makes it easiest for Google to run their business.

Invest in building 1 site with nice high PR and use it to raise PR on all your other sites.

What does that have to do with anything? If donkeys could fly people would need umbrellas. So what? On that note: If people couldn't own anything, the whole robbery and crime problem would disappear overnight!
