Question about 404 error!

    Hello

    I ve noticed, while looking at the awstats, that almost 100000 hits visited my site found a 404 error page. Is this a reliable stat? any idea why this happens?

    Plz give me your lights

    Did you ever have the pages that are showing 404 now ?

    Or used to have something else on the domain before (and still some people are following invalid links)

    Else it may be referrer spamming.

    Please check all your links on if they are valid.
    1 wrong link might cause all these 404's.

    This often occurs because search engines are following old links still indexed. You can fix that situation analyzing your log file and then creating a permanent redirection old-file to new-location using .htaccess.

    I would recommend that you download, install and run xenu link checker
    It will help you analyze all your links, which are dead, 404's etc..
