should the person that owns 10hits.com also buy tenhits.com (i dont know who it is..russian i think) another example... 10greenbottles.com or tengreenbottles.com i am looking at some domains that use the number 10 and cant decide if i need to buy both, (i have been questioned about my main site name..whether its a number or letter... i just say both) if i am buying 20 domains..that'll mean making it 40
Depends on how you're marketing it... if there's any offline marketing at all, buy both... if not, you only need to brand one way or the other. (IMHO)
voted for letters since most visitors will search for 'ten outstanding dp members' rather than '10 outstanding dp members'
I don't know man, I think it's more natural to search for the number rather than the number as a word. See also what mhdoc posted above.
For me it is too, because I'm a lazy typist. But that's not the point. When people think of numbers they usually think of the numerals, not the number written out as a word. The following in not scientific, but I think it's pretty conclusive. Numerals are searched more than numbers as words. Let's do some overture comparisons: ----------------------------------------------- "99" 14959 99 cent store 10698 99 problem 8940 99 restaurant 5115 ranch 99 3240 99 ranch market 2925 99 cent 2429 99 jamz 2383 power 99 2258 99 cent only store 2033 woodstock 99 "ninety nine" 2208 ninety nine restaurant 1835 ninety nine 334 night nine ninety 292 ninety nine restaurant and pub 179 ninety nine cent store 147 ninety nine name of allah 64 knight nine ninety ----------------------------------------------- "77" 6079 attaque 77 5885 ataque 77 5324 77 1694 77 carlo hp monte specs 1440 77 sunset strip 1114 14 19 383 728 77 90 c c5 c5.zedo.com d ff2.html h jsc n s w 962 bt 77 958 flight 77 696 blank 77 "seventy seven" 920 seventy times seven 304 seventy times seven lyric 233 brand new seventy times seven 197 brand new seventy times seven lyric 195 seventy seven 29 beyond seven seventy 28 seventy seven times seven 27 block seven seventy ----------------------------------------------- "10" 175913 10 38534 window media player 10 35827 top ten 31243 perfect 10 28130 10 lead 27658 calphalon 10 22617 final fantasy 10 22591 10 years old gallery 15398 10 day weather forecast 14397 media player 10 12602 channel 10 news 11960 net 10 11534 10 things i hate about you "ten" 49210 ten 36071 ten commandment 15778 ten free 9362 big ten 8604 ten unit 7349 ten thumb 4523 perfect teen 4491 pita ten 4452 the whole ten yard 4295 ten years after ----------------------------------------------- "3" 244902 3 door down 178402 play station 3 152846 3 animated aquarium d 91772 x man 3 70049 spider man 3 46588 star war episode 3 43723 grand theft auto 3 40698 grand theft auto 3 cheat 39300 halo 3 35706 halo 3 rumor "three" 94169 three day grace 43866 three 43640 three door down 31203 three six mafia 30687 three 6 mafia 25849 three stooges 12504 three pup 12076 three company 11934 three dog night 11731 three hour diet
thanks exam.... great answer, but i definately have the opinion i will need BOTH as the long term objective is always to be HUGE and it would be bad to even lose 10% of visitors to the 'word' version.
I usually register both If I have serious intention of developing a web business. In fact the worst side of number containing names is that you are "obsessed" by registering both (numbers and letters) Thanks, Irongloves
I'd say get both but promote the letters version since a) that's the one users will search for and b) seems a bit more professional since most sites with numbers started showing up after the letter versions of them were taken (i think that's the case in most cases anyway) as far as 10hits, yes, it's in Russian
