Good question. From my understanding of the ToS of adsense this would be a violation.

If people with grudges want to keep bumping threads like this, maybe the adsense should be removed? Or maybe the threads that violate should be removed?

    I agree.

This whole thread should be removed from Digital Point because in itself it is bordering on the offensive. I am surprised the moderators have allowed it to go on for so long.

It really cheapens and drags down this whole forum.

I support that DMOZ have adult listings, but I'm afraid that a lot of "bad" editors have been controlling these types of sites.
Dmoz could actually do something good for the end users of pron - With 95% accuracy - That means you!
Instead of looking for quality original sites they accepted way too many crappy sites that wouldn't even be listed on the real adult link sites like link-o-rama and persiankitty.
Once listed the webmasters can pretty much do whatever they want to their sites whitout loosing the listing. Too many sites and too few honest editors seems to be the problem. - Like the rest of dmoz you can say, but in the adult catalogs the problems are multiplied several times.

For the record, it's spelled "porn", not "pron".

It's wise to put a little effort into spelling and grammar (note: that's NOT "grammer") lest one LOSE (note: that's NOT "loose") credibility.

I am really shocked to find out what sort of sites are listed on dmoz when my perfectly pleasant family friendly website was more than likely turned down for lack of unique content. Fair enough.

However, I'd like to know what is so unique about ANY porn site? There are millions & billions of them, how can any of them be unique or offer a unique service?

Also, under the free porn video categories ... I guessed to myself (like anyone with half a brain-cell would) that "I bet they're not really free"....

so I checked it out. Guess what? The first one in the list is most definitely not free. That was clear within seconds of landing on the site.

I didn't bother clicking on the next one as I don't want to corrupt my pc or clog my keyboard up with vomit ...

So, where do I send my complaints? Is there such thing as a dmoz chairman / director? I'd like to contact him/her/it with my concerns.

    Bingo!

And the secondary question: Why are they allowed multiple links (DMOZ calls them "deeplinks") when that is expressly forbidden in almost every other category?

And the tertiary question: Why the hell does an Adult section even exist? What in the name of all that's holy is "the best of the best" for a porn site anyway? How the hell did DMOZ allow itself to get into the business of pormoting pornography in the first place?

I've submited http://www.yourchristianspace.com/ to this directory and never was accepted and this is a Christian site with clela content, so I do believed that there is money involved in DMOZ

It's mad isn't it. The level of hypocrisy they display is truly astounding & utterly irresponsible.

There's enough disturbing issues going on in the world without a supposedley respectable organisation such as DMOZ adding to the general confusion & disappointment!

Dmoz should absolutely list adult sites, it's a general directory.
They should however have stronger quality control, and I agree with Minstrel regarding the deeplinks issue. Only one listing per domain should be allowed, that would whipe out 90% of the sites, making it much easier to moderate the few sites left.
Why pick on dmoz? Yahoo listed adult sites long before dmoz was even born, and google also list the same adult sites that dmoz approve.

Yeah these guys have long had double standards when it come to the ODP. Despite the major search engines and directories indexing porn the ODP is supposed to pretend it doesn’t exist.

The major search engines & directories aren't pretending to be one thing whilst practising quite another!

    Added:

And neither have the major search engines & directories excluded my family friendly website due to lack of ahem unique content ! To get into dmoz maybe I nshould add a few sordid images to spice my website up a bit? That'll deffo make it unique for a skin care site :D

(in my opinion, porn is sordid & puts me right off the idea of sexual intimacy! - but each to his own)

I don't think it's wise to completely eradicate the adult section but I do believe it should be subject to the same rules as every other category. It should also take measures to ensure that the material isn't easily accessible to underage children!

DMOZ still flatters itself by promoting the directory as a cut above the rest They have delusions of grandeur... and I still want to know who to address my complaints to! Who's top cheese pleez? Anyone?

I checked this too. And if there is something free, it is basically to lead to a sale. So in most cases, a DMOZ listing for an adult site is used to help sell pornography, not to provide something for free. As mentioned previously, there are adult editors that control large sections and therefore run a business based on DMOZ listings.

That's to report editor abuse. I don't know if you can report a listing there.

It says you can report, basically, any tactic that adversely affects DMOZ for you, the user.

In most instances it is for editor abuse, but the link itself says 'spam' and one of the points of reporting states Sites which significantly change their content so that they are no longer relevant to the category/ description they have been provided with.

I've used the report system several times, and in most instances what I've reported has been removed. I've not reported pr0n though...

EDIT: The FAQ of the matter.

Don't bother. The worst porn listings are owned by Admins and Metas and even if you succeed to make enough noise to remove one listing, they will just list another domain to replace it. ;)
