Infraction for bumping thread?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by Fewleftstanding, Apr 16, 2007.

Mods, I'm not sure where to post this..

I just received an infraction for 'bumping' a thread. I was replying to someone who was looking to buy a site that I had already sold, so I replied and said that the site was sold. I don't see how this is called bumping.

    The post is here.

24 hours no replies, and an infraction for bumping...

Next time start a new thread, you may get an infraction for duplicate content though.

I have two threads out there with no replies and I'm likely going to start new threads...it's less obvious (but ultimately more destructive to the DP).

But if that's the way they want it...

    ___

    EDIT:

I didn't scroll down far enough... yeah, 9 outta 16 *IS* bumping...

I checked your infractions. All were for bumps. None were for saying a sale was closed.

Oh..ok my bad. Next time I will make a new thread instead and ignore the old one..it seems redundant to me.

Thanks for the advice guys :)

Oh, how many infractions can I have before being banned? I've already had 2..

Information about infractions can be found at http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=216611

But why would you start a new thread just because you had lowered your bin? The lowering seems to be a calculated method of bumping your thread. After all you knew when you started the sale how you would tackle the sales process: If there's no interest in the first day bump it with a new BIN!

I don't know, I've not been here long enough to figure it out. In fact, I don't think anyone has. I see people posting threads in here all the time about getting infractions for things I've seen 100 other people do.

I'm amazed half the people here are not banned already.

So really, just roll with the punches and just *try* to follow the rules. I'd also suggest to not complain, heh, I've seen a lot of folks red-repped for posting complaints...

Best of luck in love, life, and posting here at the DP ;)

Thanks for clearing this up for me everyone!

I read the FAQ, when you get 10 infractions you will be temp banned from the forum.

Mods feel free to close this :)

Besides I looked at your thread. And I counted 3 times where you had posts back to back. Becareful and like suggested even if you lowered your BIN start a new thread. Make sure it gives more info/fresh content so it wont be considered another instance for an infraction.

No, if you lower your bin keep it in the thread, but have a reason to post that it's lowered. If no one is participating in your sale a lowered bin is not going to make much difference. FWIW, you don't have to have a BIN, you can keep it as a straight auction.

If you start a new thread too soon after creating the first you risk a duplicate thread infraction. A lowered BIN is not enough to claim that it's a different deal.

So, you're probably thinking that this is a no win situation. It's not really. Be honest and upfront when you start a sale about what your BIN is and don't play games.

Never complain about infractions which you got by your mistake.

not like you couldnt pm the guy and tell him it was sold, and if you just put sold in the thread it wouldnt get bumped by usless questions like "i'm intrested" when it's already sold, that just puts a usless thread on the top when it has nothing for sale.

not another "oh no i got an infraction" thread.
