I registered the domain and launched the site Coolest Gadgets on Tuesday, I've submitted it to a load of directories and have got a few one way links. Whilst looking for other link partners I did a search on MSN (after Yahoo and Google) for Coolest Gadgets and I was amazed to find my new site is #1 I can't see me getting much traffic off that phrase or engine but am still amazed at how easy and quickly you can rank.
Hey, is that site yours, DCT? I found myself there the other day and spent a bit of time wandering around. I want the voodoo knife holder for Christmas!
Yeah it's mine pleased you liked it, I'm a bit of a gadget hoarder so thought it was a good thing for me to write about. I'm also going to try to offset gadget purchases against tax (when I'm earning enough).
Domain name must carry a high weighting for the msn index - also agree, it is a nice site and I too like the voodoo knife holder, but wouldn't want to give ideas to my wife!
I hold the first place for "local forum" on msn at the moment. My other site used to be first for "independent awards" and "independent" the day we launched. I cant really say i got much traffic.
MSN is like that easy girl in high school. You are all excited at first because you got some and it was okay, but then you realize she is not the one you want and you lust after google. In my very short time at this Google has been good for the soul because it seems like you can get to number 1 with little effort (I am not talking in hyper-competiitve categories). I know of a site that had like 2 links to it and it ended up #2 in a keyword phrase that wasn't completely devoid of competition.
That's true. If your site name is also your URL then most of your links will have those same keywords.
im currently #1 in both MSN and Yahoo, for my KW and #5 in the big "G" and I still get 80% of my visitors from Google....its sorta scary
For the same KW on all three big SEs.. Yahoo does a little more than double what MSN does and Google does more than double Yahoo and MSN combined.
MSN tops Yahoo for driving visitors to my site. Still that only comes in at a little more than 10% of Google.
MSN still seems to be quick to index new sites. Yahoo takes 2 to 3 months and Google is 9 months or even longer if your in the sandbox.
I'm starting to like MSN, I have another new site with a load of MSN #1s and it's now generating $10 a day purely off MSN traffic, roll on G and Y
For me its: 1) Yahoo 2) Google 3) MSN In terms of traffic and 1)MSN 2)Yahoo 3)Google In terms of rank.
msn is good when you search for services, companies, products etc. But when I look for information, I will not use msn. Google does it for me there
I think most people think this way when searching and perhaps that is why MSN and Yahoo have a higher conversion rate.
