"As for its formula for ranking Web sites, that's a secret" http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/internet/08/20/google.dance.ap/index.html
Nice article mjewel! and for the Algoholics part: if our sites WHERE authoritive sites, we would not need to tweek and tune and SEO.. they would end up on page #1 naturally... It's all the new sites in a competitive area that needs SEO to , at least , be on page #2 ...
Told ya they have guys trolling all the big webmasters boards regularly, especially if they have forums just for google/adsense.
Haha no kidding. I bet they sometimes throw in a monkey wrench or two just to screw with us for kicks.
I wonder how many of those companies will be contacted after they were mentioned in that article? Someone is going to get some business now because of that.
Funny, I had started a site about two months back, but sort of gave up on it after about a month and change. I didn't update for a whole two weeks, until a well-traveled site mentioned my site, making it one of those "site of the week" things, and next thing you know, I'm doing 1000/day unique for a whole week. The traffic of course tapered off, but checking my logs, it seems I have about a 30% retention, which is fabulous. I'm now doing 400 uniques/day, which isn't bad for a site just two months old in a very congested field.
The content of this article is not new to most of us, but what's interesting is that I found a link to it from a non-webmaster oriented site. MOUNTAIN VIEW, California (AP) -- Free-flowing beer, live music, karaoke and arcade games kept the party raging at the Googleplex the other night, but the real action was unfolding inside a sterile conference room at Google Inc. headquarters. http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/internet/08/20/google.dance.ap/index.html
