Norton blocking my affiliate links

Discussion in 'HTML & Website Design' started by Tommo, Aug 19, 2005.

A quick question If I view one of my sites that have jsut been built Norton blocks the banners/image ads...If I go to a rivals site they aren't blocked.

Any idea why and how to fix it?
    (apart from removing Norton!)

But that doesn't fix the probelm....
I can see the affiliate links on other sites just not on my new sites...I am concerned that customers won't see my links

There is obviously a glitch somewhere..

You have to hide your affiliate links, using a jump script. There are a lotf of cgi scripts for this.

You add your site to the "trusted" sites list in the Norton.

But of course that doesn't solve the primary issue, which is that there are a million ad blockers out there now attached to AV programs, firewalls, and anti-spam and anti-spyware programs... how, if your site has advertising like Ad-Sense, does one get around this?

Kalius...Thanks for getting me onto the Jump script . A big greeny on the way:)

I fixed the problem by a installing a jump script,

    http://www.stevedawson.com/article0006.php

This solved the problem of text links. There was still a problem of banners not appearing. I did a bit of research and discovered that Norton blocks standard banner sizes:eek:

So a quick 1px change in the banner size and hey presto the banner appears.

(thanks for Eiso for that idea)

I wonder how many webmasters know that their banners aren't appearing in a good percentage of webpages!

If anybody didn't know about this ..apart from me..Duh! once you've fixed it I'd be interested to know the difference in CTR

Can you see and test if it block adsence, and what adsence sizes it blocks?

I would be beneficial for all if it does block them to fins a solution.

It doesn't seem to block adsense, or even a feed from Ebay...either because

They are big and bribed Norton...
    they are different sizes
