Hi all, Just looking for thoughts on this. From what I could find they will become available in 4th quarter 2005. I have already reserved quite a few of them that I would like to develop, but I was wondering if they would have any value as a domain only. I could be wrong on the availability, I would have to check the reservation details. Thoughts?
It may have changed but I thought there were a long list of stipulations you have to fit (similar to .ie). Are you know able to take any .eu you would like?
http://www.europeregistry.com/domains/domains-eu.aspx#eligibility Here are the requirements. I had to make some "adjustments" to be able to pre-register. (Off topic, but thanks for the quick transaction the other day yfs1. Much appreciated)
It sounds like you would be very limited to who you could market the domain to for resale... so I really cant see how they could be that valuable, even for the better generic domains.
Good point. I actually pre-registered a few because I want to develop them. I was just curious because I thought if there was a chance of some value beyond that it may be worth picking up a few extra.
If your developing the domains go for it I reckon! I just wouldnt buy alot of them based just on their domain name value for resale.
Clearly they will be worth something - for those people in the UK, why not think of buying EU domains to be simillar to the people that invested in dockside locations in the cities 40 or 50 years ago? Registration-wise, I understand that it's necessary to be a trademark holder to take part in the first round of registrations... of course, you can own the trademark in any EU nation - if more than one person holds a trademark in a qualifying country, it's first come, first served... :-D
I don't want to be out of my mind but I think .EU will be worth more than you can think of. Just consider you are going to set a name for the European market (300M+ people). With just one name you could market your website in France, Germany, Spain, etc. (I know you can already do that with .com and .net). Anyone I feel a bad smell about this. They are already pre-registering TM names (Ex.: Ferrari.eu, BritishAirways.eu, etc., Disney.eu) just in order to prevent copyright infringment. Then at the end of this year they will open for everybody. Anyway many registrars in europe are taking pre-orders. I consider some of these illegal, since they take your many and won't give it back if registration fails. This is the reason why I won't pre-register any. Thanks, irongloves
