I'm setting up a new wordpress site, and I would like to know is it more beneficial to have the www or not for seo? thanks?
It doesn't matter as long as you choose one and stick with it. If you choose the www version, redirect (with 301) all requests to a non-www page towards the one with www. As a side note unrelated to SEO, I think the www version is better because peoples are used to it and they put it when they make a link.
Totally agree, I thnk it doesn't matter if your site has www. or non-www. Just use 301 redirect and you'll be fine.
You dont even have to do the 301 I dont think. Umm whats it called canocolisation or something. I do do it on several of my sites, but you dont really have to, google is clever enough to know the sites are the same.
Depends what you're thinking about exactly 404 means : the page no longer exist 301 means : the page is permanently moved You can redirect errors pages to the home, if the page don't exist anymore. If the page still got backlinks, then it will theorycally redirect the "juice" towards the home (or any other page you choose). But from a SEO standpoint, I'm not sure it's such a bright idea, never tested it thoroughly, it might confuse bots, could "look" strange to them Usually, I left a proper 404 with a link toward the home or even a sitemaps
