Let's discuss what measures to take when purchasing (or, trading for, etc.) a link to make sure the link is legitimate. I'll first check, http://livepr.raketforskning.com/, to see what the DCs are indexing, then check the cache command to see if the page is indexed. What else should be done? Any suggestions?
I use www.iWebtool.com to find all the information on the domain/site. It includes a very nice backlink checker.
I was speaking with someone about the whole fake PR thing and he had a few valuable suggestions. He mentioned that some word cloud links that perport to be PR6, or whatever PR, acutally are expired domains. Once the PR is updated, then the PR of some of these word cloud sites will show '0' His suggestion for checking any site was to check for backlinks through a tool like http://www.submitexpress.com/linkpop/ If there are no backlinks, then the PR is certainly suspect. Additionally, a lot of information can be found at http://www.domaintools.com/ about the integrity of a site.
Oh, BTW, it's only a coincidence that my post at #3 followed stickycarrot's post at #2. Didn't mean to imply anything about sticky's word clouds network!
I also pretty much rely on that tool. Very useful one to check fake PR. Other than that you may want to see their cashed page at Google.
Too funny! After starting this thread, I received my link I purchased from text-link-ads.com and if you've ever purchased a link from them you know that you find out what url you have after the payment is made. Well, my link I purchased was from http://www.hvlabs.net/ Classic case of fake PR! Text-link-ads, to their credit, will make things right.
Sorry to hear that! How much did it cost you? The site even doesn't have a link in Google. http://www.google.com/search?num=30...ViC&q=link:http://www.hvlabs.net/&btnG=Search
Checking the PR is really not enough. You should validate the PR with http://www.seologs.com/pr-check/pagerank.html to be sure. Most tools will just show the PR in different DC's but not if it's valid.
Didn't cost anything, as I mentioned in the post text-link-ads.com took care of it. They took responsibility of the oversight. If you want an interesting battle over this very issue, there is one that went on today in regards to word clouds and fake PR. Check it out here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=262431 The excitement begins on post #41
please add on the list. whois tools like http://whois.domaintools.com for checking domain age etc. theres no way of getting high pr for newly created sites.
I always use iwebtool for pr checking and for backlinks and indexing i check http://sitereportcard.com
We made a tool a while ago for this problem to check the URL against URL from Google's cache and check its backlinks against average Backlinks for that PR here. - http://www.xenyo.com/seotools/verifypagerank.php Works well for us.
Hi Colleen - I always do 3 checks before i purchase anything. 1. Seomoz.org - check page strength - so, so important - i've seen so many pr7, pr8 sites with a low page strength, this tool is vital if only for PR Juice. 2. Linkvendor - i use this tool all the time for the link page strength, takes a while to work out, but is an excellent tool. 3. Seologs.com - check fake page rank - poss one of the best. Other Good Tools and info: * Mongs DC checker for page rank http://www.digpagerank.com/ * Excellent history checker http://livepr.ezer.com/ Hope this helps everone out! There are so many fake, dodgy sites out there! Buyer Beware
When was the last time you've used SEOLogs? They're not working now for few months now I think. Any recommended reliable tool for checking a fake pagerank?
