From your experience, how well does StumbleUpon traffic convert? Do you consider the traffic from StumbleUpon valuable or a waste of bandwidth?
I agree with iatbm. Every traffic is good for a site. StumbleUpon, like other social bookmarkings sites/programs, can improve users "awareness" about your site. They may not be interested about your site/business now, but they can/may be in the future - window shoppers.
ORiN, there are a few ways: 1) Stumble your own ways - may be unethical 2) Buy SU ads - 5 cents a visit is a little high, but it tells you if people like your site the first time they see it. 3) Let your visitors stumble your pages - add Stumble buttons to your pages, tell them about SU in a blog post, encourage to submit your pages etc.
stumble is a great way to promote your site and maybe they are not all converting but if you build a good friend list and get other member showing your site you might get lucky and be listed on the main page and then if that does happen to your self you will get high exposure and then your chance of conversion is much higher.. so yes continue to stumble and help other DP user to get there sites listed www.iwonthiscar.com
with stumble upon its just a case of having a landing page that visitors will bookmark... the amount of pages ive bookmarked through stumbleupon is unbelievable.
Exactly It is the same here since mostly websites I find through SU are very good. Remember your website gets stumbled only if it is good enough. Even if you get stumbles here on DP in exchange there has to be "real" users also who stumble you and only then you see real traffic and money also.....
I have been curious about this as well. I wanted to do something for www.mychemstrytutor.com and forums.mychemistrytutor.com but I am not sure how to start exactly.
From my experience with stumbleupon I get a short burst of traffic for a day or two then it dies off. Also a very low CTR with stumble users.
That is because you don't have enough people who stumbled your website ... if you have 100 people who stumbled your site then traffic is pretty much constant ....
to take advantage of stumblers you have to realise the nature of them. they are bored. they want short bursts of entertainment or something to do. this is why the CTR is low as it ties in with their attention span. use one page tools that they might use to keep them interested, with a bit of luck they might like the tool enough to see if you have anything else. this can be done for a forum although dont expect instant results - its all about trial and error.
Thanks for all the input... vitaminp, you have a good point concerning the low ctr. Would you consider SU users as being "tech savvy", like Digg users? If so, I would assume this also accounts for low ctr.
if you have a Good page stumbled, than most likely people will bookmark it and stumble it otherwise it is waste. Poor pages dies out very fast(there is vote down option as well afterall) and there is a limit to the number of pages from a site that can be submitted. Be judicious in what you are submitting
Right on the money... But as said earlier on ANY traffic is good traffic since it raises awareness - and many stumblers use stumble as a bookmark in itself - quicker than using the one in your browser, since whatever you stumble become organized in categories automatically.
Stumble also gives me good traffic, even if your site appears everytime the users press Stumble! button.
