Hi, Reading for quite some time, and finally registered. I've noticed the following small differences in results for almost identical queries (I’ve taken my site as measure point): Google search: "JoJo biography" (I rank 8th) against "jojo Biography" (I rank 4th). "JOJO biography" (8th) against "jojo BIOGRAPHY" (4th). Also why does querying on "craig david lyrics fast cars" (5th) against "craig david fast cars lyrics" (15th) makes such a big difference, I mean, the actual search query is theoretically identical and all the pages included in (at least) the first twenty results almost output the same content. How come? Thanks, Mark - PS. Shawn, great site + great forum.
When saying "JoJo biography", do you actually search with the " " around it? If so then they are your answer. They make G look for direct, literal matches, including word order and apparently (new to me) capitalization.
Then I guess it might still think you are mainly after the words in that order, in that form of capitalization. But I have never witnessed it before myself so that would just be my guess. Welcome to DP BTW!
Hmmm... the "craig david lyrics fast cars" one is logical. The order of words in a query certainly makes a difference "Pepsi Free" is different than "Free Pepsi"! Your query may be doesn't have a lot of difference, but remember that everything in Google is computerized! It doesn't know whether the order makes sense or not the capitalization one is pretty weird though! First time i hear about it!
