My website (open less that a week) #1 out of 2,170,000

Discussion in 'Google' started by Jabowen, Apr 6, 2007.

  1. #1
Ok here is the thing, my site has been open less than a week, and we are #1 in Google when you type "National Xbox", beating OXM (Official Xbox Magazine), how did I do it? I don't know :S.

But I am chuffed and thought I would share it with you, does this add value to the domain or anything.

    Regards,
    Jac Bowen

Depends on how much traffic "national XBox" brings, really.

Did you even check his site? He owns nationalxbox.com, the phrase is national xbox. Hardly anybody else is trying to rank for it, why would he drop?

There is no competition for "national xbox" so the site will not drop, because basically the keyword is presently useless for search engine traffic.

The only good I can see in this is if your sites is in for the long run, you have a easier time branding your site for the name which would be good if your site become popular.

This type of thread comes up often on Digital Point. It's important for the originators of such posts to understand the dynamics here:

    • Your search term national xbox is your domain name. That's excellent and will often push that specific website to #1 or near the top. My domain name is my first and last name and has ranked #1 in all major search engines from early on. However, read on...

    • A big part of the reason for such #1 rankings is that there is no competition for those keywords. In this case, the compound terms national xbox receive zero daily searches according to Wordtracker and Overture. My #1-ranking first and last name (my domain name) receives only one daily search.:(

    • To say that national xbox is #1 out of some 2 million results is misleading. Here's why: Nobody is searching for the phrase national xbox. By contrast, there are thousands of daily searches for the individual word xbox. For that competitive term, your website is off the radar screen.

    • Ignore the xx-million results that Google shows. Those are results that contain your search terms anywhere on the webpage, not necessarily adjacent to each other. They show every xbox webpage that contains the word national anywhere in the text.

    • Test the above data out by typing "national xbox" (quotes included) into Google, and you'll see that it is #1 out of only 274 sites. And that #1 rank is almost certainly because you have the search term locked up as your domain name.

Please understand, my comments offer no disrespect. I'm just trying to clear up a common misunderstanding held by some on Digital Point.

yes I totally agree with Jim4767, congratz on ranking top but I don't know of anyone who searches national xbox. You should try to rank for keywords like xbox, xbox forum, xbox chat etc even though these are hard to rank for, you should get a lot of traffic just being in the 2nd or 3rd page :)

Enjoy your moment at the top! This is a very static situation and while youre at it - savour it!
Anyway there no other way to go but down....

Bottom line .... is that number 1 spot bringing you traffic??? If not, then it's not benefiting you at all.

Just remember no traffic = no money = no value.

Don't get discouraged since you really do have a brandable domain name. My suggestion is develop the site and target every xbox related keyword you can.

Also new sites often rank high for good keywords for a few days, and then drop in to oblivion. However your keyword isn't that good so it might stick:)

Yes, I would predict that the high ranking will stick, because of its noncompetitive nature. And that's a nice thing. We all like to have at least one #1 search term, competitive or otherwise. :D Keep feeling good!

If your domain is something like paypalscamguide.com, there is an extremely good chance it will be #1 on google for "paypal scam guide".

"National Xbox" does not pick up much OVT at all, sure its great you picked up this term but yes their is no competition at all.

nice pick up any way try and rank one for "XBOX" but its impossible becuase xbox.com is favoured for top spot lol.

but any way the 2 million results could be a combination of any "xbox" term and any "national" term
for a bunch of different combinations.
    =)
