Just wondering, how do you edit the PHPBB board, i tried to open the "index" with dreamweaver, but it just ends up as a blankpage? Or is it a different file, but i searched all the files that i downloaded from my host for my PHPBB folder.

If you just starting a community, I would suggest to go for opensource rather than paid one. phpbb is most popular one in Open source.

I used Invision Power Board for about 3 years on forums i've ran in the past and it was absolutely amazing, however, i switched to vB not so long ago and i just find it even easier to do tasks in. Plugins and Mods/Hacks to tweak your board are much easier and the skinning templates are absolutely easy to use!

It is expensive, but it's worth the investment if you plan to run a large community. I would highly recommend going with a paid forum software if you're planning to run a fairly busy forum, just incase anything happens, you know you're secure for upgrades, support and any assistance when needed by the team from vB.

Best of luck with your venture.

I opened and IPB forum. I had doubts betweeb IPB and VB but I went for the first one. I don't like the structure of the Vb's although that from what I read they are more Seo friendly. Good luck!

If you want a simple forum, with very simple stuff and easy to modificate yourself(with PHP knowledge) You should get PHPBB.
But if you're starting a big forum and you don't know a lot of PHP, I'd say, use vbulletin.

well phpbb is nothing less in SPAM protection. You can easily deal with SPAM in phpbb too. and jessica12 .. vB can also be spammed with Xrumer and other Spamming softwares.
