The ONLY Way to Determine Whether a Web Directory is Quality

    Hey to Digital Point Members,

I would like to give my opinion on the best way to determine if you should submit to a directory, whether paid or free.

As you know there are thousands of directories and more being born every day, but not all can give you a quality boost in rankings.

When doing link building, Only submit to sites can provide a boost in rankings and provide a quality link.

The best way to determine if you should submit to a web directory is to

    1. Check about 10 random sites already submitted on the directory, preferably 30-50 days old based on submission date.

    2. Go to Google, and do a link:www.domain.com of the websites, if they are not showing a backlink from the directory, then move on.

    3. Google selects backlinks based on quality and relevance.

Conclusion: Backlinks on google are hard to get, so if these directories proved to supply backlinks, they are quality, whether paid or free.

check sites listed on Alive directory, and Aviva directory

This is a great tip and I've doing it for a while now. That said, Google isn't the only SE out there. A directory might not help you w/ Google but it might for Yahoo, MSN, et. al.

Thank Silencer, the backlinks will have to be Seo-friendly in order to obtain a backlink. Also as Ecart, said checking on msn and yahoo will also help. Time consuming, but you know that you are putting your money in the right place.

I kind of have to agree, been looking at some stats, and few times the number was different/random.

    That is not true--

Gimme $1000 bucks for 3 months budget-- I'll get you over 3 K google backlinks.
But I can not gurantee their quality ( in terms of PR, but no gambling/adult sites)

Getting the Google backlinks number of your site is very very easy. Just list homepage site -wide on big sites that has hundreds of cached pages. By next backlink update google will show thousands of backlinks.

    Your observation/conclusion is incorrect.

    yahoo uses the link: command.

I don't know much about msn, they haven't even indexed my site *cough*

But how long can you keep it at that level? Not long I am predicting. Longevity is the key.

What do you mean --not long? --Either way you are buying --links --isn't? So just make arrangement for a long term listing. The links will be there as long as you pay $$$$$$$ for those links.

Welllllll - it may give you thousands of backlinks but big G will only show you a sample of a few of those... they are historically very conservative about showing the links they know about.

You haven't ridden the rollercoaster obviously lol.

My friend, see what happens when you have 10,000 listings in Google then next update that drops to 800. Once that happens tell me if you understand what you are talking about ;)

Mate mate mate--did you check sites before saying this?

Alive has over 14K google backlinks --only from around 600 domains. Aviva has lots of them --only from around 650 domains. Linksjuice has over 5K google backlinks--but only from arund 400 domain.

Check before you refute somebody's claims.

    Thanks

I'd say the BEST bang for buck is get in on some small ones with lots of promotion. Pay $1-2$ for inclusion when it's PR1 and you're in there when it hits PR5+.
