I've seen some talk on here and other forums about duplicate content and wanted to take moment to help dispel some or the misinformation I have seen. I posted a quite lengthy blog post about it that I was hoping we could discuss here. http://www.simplifiedsec.com/seoblog/?p=26
I may do another article on some of the newer search engine technology I have been researching. Seems not many people are up on where the industry is headed as far as natural search is concerned.
For what? Writing articles? Duplicate content? Of course duplicate content is punishable in some form. From my experience it definitely doesn't = a banning though.
I've never heard of anyone being banned for duplicate content either. But google will ignore the pages that are duplicate and penalize the entire site in the rankings.
Most duplicate pages I have seen end up in the supplemental index. I clones the whole of wikipedia to test this theory. THe pages are all indexed, but the majority are supplemental.
Thanks for the link. Seems like a pretty good idea. I suppose you are able to generate a small amount of revenue from that site. Not bad. And yeah, looks like most of the pages are in supplemental index for Google. But who knows how lenient the other search engines are on duplicate content. Very nice indeed.
I use the software in my signature to drive traffic to the articles. It's only been a couple weeks but i'm pulling in 50+ a day right now
i had someone asking me recently about duplicate content in Google and the best example I could give is the same listing info from facebook, linkedin and twitter... thats pretty much duplicate content. It really depends where the content is
