Google got shades?

I was checking rank today and google had differnt shaded bars for the sponsor links. The top sponsor bar was normal blue and the second sponsor bar was shaded "Peach". All the sponsor text ads on the right side were shaded blue also. I have never seen this before in a google search. Any comments?

Its a shame 50 posts on what Shoe is eating in his Avitar but NOT one reply to my original post. :(

Here is the pic - Notice the little bars inside the sponsor ads on the right. If you cant read them it says "Interest"

Nothing new. In fact, they've been doing that since the old CPM days!

Ah... welcome to the world of DP... where you can post something as retarded as you making an ass of yourself singing some dumb stuff and get 10 pages of people saying how amazing you are, but you ask a question about a problem with your servers and you can hear the crickets chirping ...

    I like it too BUT:
I think the shading gives the number two sponsor more focus than number one and with all the ads on the right side they look more like banners or "ads" and probally less attractive to the surfers.

Bet ya G monitors the click through and adjusts the colors accordingly. Maybe thats why they do it, to deimportise the first slot.

Perrow could you expand on your post a little more? I do not see why G would want to change the click thru rate for either #1 or #2. If G highlighted one over the other Some one would get mad and that would be an unfair advantage. I do think that G raises position slightly based on click thru. Example: Number one might pay less per click than number two. Tell me more.

Now don't start asking valid questions that I have absolutely no answers to when I get an idea. I have no idea why they would want to make the premium spot less important.

But thinking about it, it might make sense to make people watch more than the first ad, it's hard to sell three spots if the first gets all the clicks. By evening things out they might be able to charge more for the three ads total.
