Why don't you comment on blogs?

Well,my blog gets good traffic everyday but only a few people comment on it.
I wonder why you guys don't comment?
Because the link of yours will have the "nofollow" attribute?
    Are there any other reasons?

I have a similar experiance, but I don't think anyone should expect alot of comments from first time visitors.

Yeah,I was thinking about this and I just downloaded the "dofollow" plugin.
But will they notice that I've installed this plugin?
    I doubt it.

Unless you've written about something I feel strongly about I don't comment. Web related posts don't anger me so I don't reply to argue :D

I don't comment on blogs that I have to register just to post. I allow anyone to comment on mine. I normally post on blogs when someone leaves me a comment.

Sometimes I just comment that I like the post.

You have to give people something to comment about.

The best ways to encourage comments is to say something they disagree with or ask some questions at the end of your post.

I'll usually comment if it is a subject that I like or I have an opinion about, otherwise I won't...

It's normal. Most visitors won't comment, unless it's a topic they feel strongly about, or unless you've built a really close relationship with your readers.

There's also a bit of the "herd" mentality happening. I've noticed that when one or two people comment on a blog post, it encourages other people to leave comments. Very few people want to be the first person to comment on a blog post. It's just like the dance floor - nobody wants to be the first person on the dance floor. :)

I agree with infoworld. Lots of people won't comment unless the post tickles their emotional side.

A lot of blogs are difficult to comment on, if you aren't spamming. You have to evoke enough of "something" to generate the energy for the reader to risk having to waste a click to learn they must log in, and then they have to type in their own details, and if there is a word verification item they could get a typo or technical glitch...

Yeah, okay, those things annoy me when I try to comment sometimes... ;)

Personality driven blogs attract more comments. Also if I do not see an existing comment, I wouldn't really feel like commenting

I think it is niche and post dependent. It also depends on your blog's authority.

Start commenting on other people's blog. They are usually happy to return the favor!
