What is your opinion on putting Ads in directory site?
Do you think they are worth? If so which one would you recommend?

I prefer no ads, so our directories are ad free - I would rather our visitors clicked your link instead of an ad. ;)

I have no choice-- I was using Adsense-- in one of my directories --Google banned my account two days back with $17 in it:mad: ( got this revenue in 6/7 months:D ).

But I just realised that my directory now looks much better, cleaner and gorgeous than those texts:D

Most of the responses were for Adsense. But I've heard that directories do not produce much CTR. Is it true?

Wait until you get a YPN account :D

If it's a paid directory, using no ads is better imo.
For free directories, AdSense is the best. However adplacement is greatly important to get some clicks.

I put 2 adsense blocks on my directory temporarily near the sponsered sites section. (but there are no "visit our sponsers" or anything so it should be fine)

But once i start to sell the sponsered areas i'll get rid of them so it looks even better.

And yes, i get hardly any clicks in the past day of adding them, even though i've got 2,000+ pageviews on them..

I agree with the notion that paid directories probably don't need to have adsense on them. Free directories need to product revenue somehow, so it makes sense to have some type of CPC or CPA links.

Does it matter which provider you use, ads all pretty much look the same if you ask me.

If its a piad directory I expect no ads, if its free then ok thats fair enough.

Very much agreed, because since your directory major, main income is from the people paying to be listed in your directory, it just doesn't seems nice to have some ads in your directory, it seems as if your directory is not working well enough to support your website which is why you need those Ads to cover-up your fees.

i have finally put up some ads on my directory, but then perhaps removing the ads will be a better choise.
paid directories dose not have much traffic, and they get money from the paid listings. so, cpc ads are not the best choise for these.
free directories have a lot of traffic, and since it is free, cpc ads are the only choise!:)

Not a good idea....I experimented with www.fourseek.com and it's not doing good with adsense. I got one guy paying me the large banner for $5 a month that you see sitewide which makes more than adsense.

Though, I think if you ask someone here (reasonable amount) i'm sure you could replace those ugly ads with a sponsor listings instead.

    None of the above.

Banner or text ads if any. It has worked out monetizing my free directory.

Adsense or any program like that is a bad idea.
