I seem to be having a problem SEO'ing my website, which is a video site. The home page has an introductory paragraph or site primer stating what the site is about, with relevant keywords that were tastefully included, but the bulk of it are the videos themselves. I noticed in Google Webmaster that my "about us" page has the highest PR for the 3rd week in a row, which is not what I want...however, it's the only page that has a lot of text on it, which probably explains why it has the highest rank. I've done the entire SEO thing with meta descriptions, keyword usage, strategic title, etc. Without having to add a huge paragraph on my front page, what else can be done? If the relevancy of the content is high, are good backlinks the only option for me? I know this is a bad example, but look at Youtube's home page - they don't have a description or anything whatsoever that explains what their site is about.
There are two parts of SEOing. 1) On page 2) Off page you have completed 1 part only and now you have to start working on 2nd part which is more crucial.
Backlinks are definitely the most important factor especially for your site nature. For this kind of sites, I think you will get better results by targeting viral marketing and social bookmarking rather than SEO
Thanks!! For whatever reason, I have zero luck with social bookmarking, except for blinklist and clipmarks. I've gotten 2 hits from del.icio.us in two months :/
