Proper way to code quotes

Discussion in 'HTML & Website Design' started by cmeinck, Mar 28, 2007.

For the past year, I have been code quotes using "...." instead the of the curling quotes that are found in most press releases and word documents. Is it WC3 compliant to use the "curly" quotes? If so, how do I code these?

    TIA

So, the use of so-called "curly quotes" is not do-able or acceptible under WC3 standards?

You cannot have a page validate with " as your quote. It is not accepted as XHTML You must use the code above for the page to validate. You also cannot use - or ' as in don't, those will not validate either

I understand the proper way to achieve ". My question is whether there is a way to code opening and closing curly quotes.

It appears from your feedback that there is only one proper way to use quotes is "

    Thanks

I agree with the use of " - but you can use:

    ” for right-double quote
    “ for left-double quote
    Code (markup):

I believe this is what I'm looking for...

Will this pass WC3 guidelines as valid XHTML?

    Thanks.
